Permanent Duty Station (PDS) based at Bristol Abbey Wood, Filton, BS34 8JH This role supports Hybrid working with an expectation of 2-3 days attendance in office aligned to business needs.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Job description:


In the HR People role you will support the Assistant Head HR with delivering people based activities to such as Wellbeing, Employee Engagement, Learning and Development, Diversity and Inclusion across our organisation.

The role sits with the Defence Support HR Team, which lies at the heart of the Defence Support Headquarters.

We are responsible for all people-based activities, including Workforce Planning, Recruitment, Wellbeing, Employee Engagement, Learning and Development, Diversity and Inclusion with the aim to create a supportive and inclusive place to work.

Establishing and developing a positive culture within Defence Support, in which all are supported in our careers and developed to our full potential where excellence is rewarded and recognised.

This role reports to the Assistant Head HR and will be responsible for supporting the People Survey, Wellbeing and Diversity and Inclusion working groups as well as looking after our learning and development offer.


  • Key Responsibilities: _
  • Support Defence Support Assistant Head HR in implementation of Diversity and Inclusion strategy, including action planning
  • Support Defence Support Assistant Head HR in implementation of Health and Wellbeing strategy, including action planning
  • Support in the development and implementation of employee experience action plans, including analysis and action planning for People and Defence Support Culture Surveys
  • Support Defence Support staff with advice on broader banded civilian staff issues and act as focal point on civilian broader banded HR issues for UKStratCom, Civ HR and Defence Business Services. Develop expertise in civilian personnel policy and procedures in support of the HRBP
  • Lead on development of Learning and Development plans and support across the HLB, liaising with TLB L&D team.
  • Lead on Apprenticeship engagement and support across the HLB in liaison with TLB Apprenticeship Team, ensuring HLB targets are met
  • Take active role in HR and DefSp newsletter submissions including sourcing of content
  • Lead on maintenance of HR Hub content
  • Proactively identify improvements to employee experience and develop plans to implement
  • Support the implementation of the UKStratCom People Strategy and DefSp HR Plan
  • Support Assistant Head HR, HR Manager and DefSp HQ by providing responses to RFI's and MI for management meetings.
