Description

Job description:

Environmental Crime in the Community is something that we must all work together on to reduce.

The role of an Environmental Enforcement Officer will see you undertaking a range of different activities within the local community to address this problem.

District Enforcement work in partnership with Local Authorities and we are embarking on a new contract with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

We are now looking for outstanding individuals to collaborate with our team of Enforcement officers.

Officers are given designated powers and will conduct foot patrol across the Borough.

In the case of witnessing an offence such as littering or dog fouling, you will be required to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice to the offender, whilst offering advice and providing information which will hopefully result in long-term behavioural changes amongst individuals.

About Barnsley
Barnsley is a large market town in South Yorkshire, England.

As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire, the 2011 Census gave the town a population of 91,297 compared to the wider borough which had a population of 246,866.

Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located between the cities of Sheffield, Manchester, Wakefield, and Leeds. The larger towns of Rotherham, Huddersfield and Doncaster are nearby.

With famous places of interest and some fantastic hidden gems, visitors to Barnsley will not be short of things to do.

Barnsley's local culture remains rooted in its industrial heritage of coal, mining, and glassmaking. You can visit Experience Barnsley to discover more about the history of this interesting place.

Surrounded by ancient villages, historic parkland and bordering onto the Peak District, Barnsley has some excellent places to visit for those wanting to relax and get back to nature.

About you

Ideally, we are looking for a person who is motivated, and holds the right skill sets and behaviours, to work independently, whilst supporting their colleagues and working as part of a team to deliver an outstanding service within the community.

  • Do you care about the community where you live?
  • Are you looking for a career change?
  • Do you consistently act with conscience and integrity?
  • Are you willing to build and collaborate with a team to achieve excellence whilst acting as ambassadors to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council?
  • Are you enthusiastic about the Environment and want to make a real difference?
  • Are you able to engage with people, and do you hold effective communication skills?
  • Do you enjoy working as part of a team?
  • Do you have basic IT skills and are able to use technology/smart phones?
  • Do you think you have what it takes to stand up to those who break the law?
  • Do you hold a full UK Driving Licence?

If so, we provide great training, collaborating with experienced officers, which will compliment your existing skills to make you an excellent enforcement officer.

We are also looking for full-time positions, to fit with the core needs of the business. Full-time positions will cover 40 hours per week, with a rolling rota in place to assist on weekend working. Consideration can also be given to different working patterns/job share. Further details will be provided at interview.

This is an interesting and challenging role and tackling Environmental Crime does make a difference.

As representatives of both the Company and the Local Authority, you will need to be highly motivated and should have a GCSE in Mathematics and English (or equivalent NVQ - key skills).

You must be able to conduct foot patrol for a major part of your daily shift and be able to patrol in all weather conditions.
