    Assistant Engineering Manager (HVDC)

    About the Role:

    • Base Location: We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. However, we will need your base location to be one of our SSEN Transmission Offices (Perth / Inverness / Aberdeen / Glasgow).
    • Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.
    • Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

    As part of SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 program, we are seeking Assistant Engineering Managers to help propel our projects forward, bringing fresh ideas, new skills, and innovative thinking to expand our teams successfully, striving for a network for Net Zero.

    The majority of Pathway to 2030 projects are new HVDC projects. This position would be part of the HVDC Engineering Team, where prior HVDC experience is beneficial but not mandatory. We encourage applicants with strong multi-discipline engineering / project management backgrounds in construction, consultancy, or client organizations within the Energy Industry to apply.

    An Assistant Engineering Manager (HVDC) will have the following key responsibilities:

    • Work alongside the Project Engineering Manager to oversee the delivery of HVDC Engineering scope for assigned projects, ensuring that Engineering and Quality risks are identified and managed proactively to minimize risks to project quality and schedule.
    • Manage project engineers and coordinate all engineering activities, including selecting and overseeing engineering consultants, as well as providing technical direction to contractors.
    • Promote and oversee safety within the project portfolio, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and requirements throughout all project phases.
    • Oversee Design Management Plans, Engineering Works Information, and scheduling of Design Reviews while ensuring competent project technical leadership.

    What do I need?

    • A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably CEng) with significant experience leading multidiscipline teams.
    • Strong technical knowledge of the Transmission network, including the understanding of core elements, facilitating functions, and legal and regulatory obligations for Transmission.
    • Familiarity with relevant legislation and its implications for Transmission network management, including CDM and ESQCR.
    • Excellent relationships with consultants and external industry experts, with the ability to effectively communicate and address complex technical issues and recommendations.
