Description

What you need to succeed:

It is imperative that you have strong technical knowledge in the areas of clinical negligence and/or personal injury and significant experience of managing high value claims, preferably including birth injury claims.

You will need to be able to manage a diverse and high performing team of individuals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Your leadership approach should promote autonomy and trust, avoiding micromanagement while providing necessary guidance and support. Demonstrating emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills, you will engage with team members respectfully and inspire them to excel.

Embodying a positive and approachable demeanour, you will cultivate a cohesive and motivated team, ensuring each members contributions are valued and recognised.

What skills and competencies we are looking for in this leadership role:

Leadership skills:

The ability to lead and inspire others, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment while driving performance and achieving organisational goals.

Exceptional Expertise in Clinical Negligence/Personal Injury Claims:
In-depth knowledge and experience in handling complex and/or high value negligence claims, including understanding legal processes, relevant case law and both sides perspectives

Organisation and planning:

Ability to manage workloads effectively and efficiently, internal and external asks, team resources and critical timelines, ensuring smooth operations and successful deliveries.

Communication Proficiency:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex legal and medical concepts clearly to both internal teams and external stakeholders

Strategic Vision:
Strong strategic thinking and planning skills to develop and implement effective long-term strategies for optimising the teams performance and contributing to the organisations strategy and business plan

More about you:
You are an ambitious and forward-thinking leader, eager to drive the TCU to new heights of success. You thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, adapting to emerging challenges and finding creative ways to overcome them.

You foster a collaborative and inclusive work culture, empowering your team to contribute their best and achieve collective goals. You lead by example, displaying integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in all professional interactions. Your strong problem-solving abilities allow you to tackle complex technical challenges, finding pragmatic solutions to ensure overall success. If you are a person who can demonstrate the above, we would strongly encourage you to apply.

We take our work very seriously because we are acutely aware that each claim involves an injured patient, regardless of whether liability attaches, and that the impact upon them and their families is significant.

However, our approach between colleagues is much more relaxed and theres a very inclusive and supportive culture with the opportunity for everyone to be heard.

Before I'd even set foot in NHS Resolution I knew I wanted to be part of the Technical Claims Unit.

I wanted to be working on the most complex and high value cases, being part of decisions that could arguably shape clinical negligence law in England and Wales.

Ive been fortunate to be part of TCU for 9 years, involved in high profile group actions, contempt proceedings and cases weve taken to the Supreme Court.

For the last two years I have been leading the team as one of the Heads of TCU and now need to replace myself.

The dynamic between the three Heads works well, with each taking responsibility for discrete areas of work and meeting regularly to discuss issues and monitor progress.

You couldnt wish for a better team to lead:
our people are incredibly bright and experts in their field yet grounded, approachable and friendly.

To assess your suitability for this role with consideration to the job description and person specification a range of assessment activities will form part of the selection process

This will include:
A written assessment which will be used for further shortlisting.

The written assessment will be undertaken in the week commencing 28/ A formal interview and further assessments which will be held via conference call or video-based interaction rather than face to face meetings.
