    Whether you are a Band 5 Dietitian looking to develop your specialist skills or a Band 6 Dietitian wishing to move to a different speciality.

    As this is a trainee post, full training will be given.

    Main duties of the job

    This post is based at our Royal Blackburn Hospital site, with outpatient clinics across East Lancashire.

    You would be responsible for managing a caseload of adult outpatients referred for Dietetic Gastroenterology support. Patient conditions include; Coeliac Disease, IBD, IBS, Diverticular Disease, Liver and general gastroenterology patients.

    Clinical support, supervision and training will be given from the band 7 Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian as well as band 6 Specialist Dietitians in the team.

    East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (ELHT) has one of the largest Digestive Diseases units with 10 Gastroenterologists, 3 IBD nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Liver nurses, Endoscopists' that use state of the art technology. The Trust is a national Hepatobiliary centre.

    You would be joining a Dietetic Gastroenterology team of 4 Gastroenterology Specialist Dietitians. The Dietitians work closely with the Gastroenterology MDT and are respected as key members of the team.

    The East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Dietetic Department is one of the largest in the region and covers the hospitals and communities of East Lancashire. The department covers both inpatients, outpatients and the community and looks after patients from from cradle to the grave. The department has nearly 90 staff and covers many specialties and is known for its innovation, development and training.

    All Patient records are electronic whether it be Cerner as an inpatient or EMIS in the community.

    Job responsibilities

    We are looking for a Dietitian wishing to gain experience in gastroenterology, to join our dynamic team. Gastroenterology experience is desirable but not essential as training will be given.

    You would nutritionally manage a wide range of out-patients with gastrointestinal conditions.

    Coeliac Disease - You would be part of our well-established Dietetic led adult Coeliac clinics with weekly consultant MDTs. You would have a mixture of Coeliac annual review clinics, clinics and group sessions for newly diagnosed Coeliac patients.

    IBD - You would be part of our IBD MDTs and be part of a team supporting our large number of patients we have on polymeric diets. You will be involved in evolving the IBD service and exploring the possibility of joint MDT clinics.

    Liver - Your caseload would include liver patients and you would be part of developing the liver MDT.

    IBS- You would be part of our IBS service which uses a mixture of online resources, group sessions and one to one clinic appointments to deliver first- and second-line dietary advice.

    General Gastroenterology - You would run general gastroenterology clinics to cover a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders not covered above requiring Dietetic support.

    The post may also have opportunities to cover the gastroenterology in-patient wards.

    We are a teaching hospital so the post holder would be expected to take part in clinical student training for Dietitians, Medical Students and other Health Care Professionals.

    The department is an experienced trainer for Dietetic students and provides placements for all the different levels of student placements from Chester University, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Central Lancashireas well as apprentice Dietitians.

  • BSc or MSc in Dietetics
  • HCPC current registration.
  • Clinical supervisory skills

  • Post graduate Dietetic relevant qualifications
  • Experience

  • Recent relevant post graduate Dietetic experience
  • Clinical supervision of Dietitians, Dietetic support staff and students
  • Demonstrable evidence of ongoing CPD
  • Experience of working as part of an MDT
  • Worked in the NHS as a Dietitian
  • Desirable

  • Experience working in Gastroenterology
  • Experience working as part of a MDT Nutritional Support team
