    What you'll do

    The role is to join as a member of the Group Information Services - Databases team which supports all our internal database environments across the group on Oracle and SQL Server. The role's main priority will be to manage our production and non-production database systems proactively and working on new projects that involved new DB systems.

  • Proactively manage, maintain, and monitor SQL and Oracle Server systems based in our Datacentre in multiple locations.
  • Diagnose the database system health regularly and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Work on multiple DB support requests from all application stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise to the development teams by assisting developers with implementations and ongoing maintenance of the Database environments.
  • Managing all Oracle and SQL Server related Backups and Recovery scenarios and perform backup validation and restore tests.
  • Participate and deliver tasks in DR tests scheduled by DR team.
  • Installation of quarterly critical patch updates and working on DB upgrades for Oracle systems.
  • Installation of service pack, cumulative update and security updates for SQL Server systems.
  • Provide proactive support all production, development & test environments in Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Capacity monitoring and forecast the growth of critical databases.
  • The ability to work closely with problem management team in identifying the root cause for DB related major incidents
  • Be available to work outside normal office hours, weekend and public holidays. Applicants will be expected to be on call after few months and respond according to agreed SLA's.
  • What you'll need

    The ideal candidate will be around five years' experience as a DBA and be fast to learn our topology, have excellent communication skills both face to face and on the telephone, they will have the ability to assess and prioritise tasks and excellent troubleshooting skills.

    Effective and accurate documentation, with real-time updates to the various ticketing systems and projects tools is essential.

    The role includes providing rota based Out-Of-Hours Support for Major Incidents in a 3rd line capacity, which may include attending site in Hatfield, if the need/incident arises.

    Key Requirements

  • Oracle 19c and 12c running on Windows Platforms
  • SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 in standalone, failover clustering and Always on AG configuration
  • SSAS, SSRS and SSIS configuration and support
  • Extensive skills and knowledge on different Oracle and SQL Server toolsets
  • Good SQL & PL/SQL and T-SQL knowledge
  • Performance Tuning expertise on both Oracle and SQL Server databases
  • Good knowledge and working experience of RMAN
  • Thorough understanding of High Availability and DR including working experience of Oracle FailSafe and SQL Server Always on Availability Group
  • Experience of working within a controlled ITIL environment with good understanding of control processes & procedures.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Motivated team player with excellent organisational skills, triage and task prioritisation.
  • Must be (or have the ability to be) Security Cleared
