Full time and fixed term positions available on both sites: Queen Charlottes and St Mary's Hospital.


You would be required to lead the labour ward on your shifts, as well as rotate into maternity triage and maternity day assessment unit as required.


This is a senior Midwifery role and there is an expectation that the post holder will fully participate in theclinicaland professional leadership within the organisation.

Thispostrequires an enthusiastic and motivated midwife with excellent leadership and communication skills who can demonstrate focus and commitment to creating positive birth experiences for women, birthing people and their families.

Excellent management and leadership qualities are central in maintaining a supportive and forward thinking maternity service that places women and their family's needs central to the service, as well as creating a dynamic and innovative environment for staff.


It is expected that you will be educated to degree level, have a keen interest in patient safety, knowledge, on-going clinical development,an awareness of research based evidence/guidelines, be a SSSA Practice Assessor or have a Mentorship qualification.

You will provide day to day support to the midwives in your team.

Midwives will be supported in their practice and professional development by a high profile and supportive approach from the Professional Midwifery Advisor (PMA) and the midwifery education team.

Cross site working between the two sites would be required.

  • Working on a rotational rota of both long day and night shifts; you will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the pregnant woman's journey through maternity services
  • The post holder will support the Matrons and Head of Midwifery in and out of hours, providing senior oversight to ensure the best patient and staff safety and care is delivered.
  • You will coordinate the twice daily maternity safety huddles and participate in the trust site capacity call out of hours
  • You will coordinate the St Mary's maternity response in the event of a trust major incident; and also attend and support maternity emergency calls on the St Mary's site.
  • Ensure safe and effective clinical practice in selfensuring knowledge, skills and competencies are current and act as clinical expert to disseminate specialist skills and knowledge to others.
  • Enhance the woman's experience of care and ensure that the needs of the woman are placed at the centre of care delivery.
  • Manage and develop the performance of the team by ensuring staff are prepared and supported and are competent to practise safely and effectively.
