Start your career within NOV and join us as an Apprentice CNC Machinist.
You will use your existing mathematical and technical knowledge as a foundation to build and develop skills critical to becoming a well-trained, experienced and key member of our Glenrothes manufacturing team.
As an NOV Apprentice you will develop a strong understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC Turning, CNC Milling, CNC Horizontal Boring and CNC Programming.
You will become part of a global business that has the people capabilities and vision to serve the needs of a challenging, evolving industry.
Apprenticeship Development Plan
Your Apprenticeship Development Plan will start at our Glenrothes Manufacturing site where you will firstly and most importantly become part of our team.
You will gain your initial understanding of our business processes - taking part in a rotational plan moving throughout our different departments.
Starting with our Sales Team, you will see the lifecycle of our products right through to the completion and shipping of a manufactured component ready to be used in extreme subsea conditions.
Your hands-on academic training plan is where learning and development really begins.You will take part in a 4 year training plan where NOV will monitor your progress, supporting and guiding you to become a successful and first class CNC Machinist.
Year One:
You will spend 36 weeks working towards your hands-on SVQ Level 2 Qualification in a purpose built college facility. Your SVQ Level 2 will create the foundations for progression - understanding general fundamental manufacturing processes and requirements.
Year Two:
You will be onsite at Glenrothes where you will re-join the NOV team and use their knowledge to further your development - you will gain first-hand exposure in our machine shop and you will develop an understanding of our procedures, policies and values.
Year Three:
You will be qualified to set and operate machine tools; under supervision you will manufacture your first components to be used 2,000 metres below sea.
Year Four:
You will work with limited supervision, setting and operating NOV machinery. You will graduate as a fully trained and skilled NOV CNC Machinist.
AS AN NOV APPRENTICE YOU WILL HAVE:
Qualifications
- English National 5 Level Grade B or above (essential)
- Math National 5 Level Grade B or above (essential)
- Science National 5 Level Grade B or above (desirable)
- Technical Subject National 5 Level Grade B or above (desirable)
Experience
- Working Environment Experience (desirable)
Skills, training or special knowledge
- Computer literacy (including good command of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook) (desirable)
Technical learning
- Capable of gaining a technical understanding of machinery components and products
Problem Solving
- Capable of finding alternative solutions to problems as a means to successfully deliver fully manufactured components
Dealing with ambiguity
