Job description


This role is based within the Cheshire to Lancashire Area Team and we provide advice and input to a range of marine work and major casework, including; offshore wind farms, tidal barrage, oil, gas, fisheries, conservation advice and condition assessments.

This role will be part of the Area Team cohort of Senior Advisers who specialise on protected sites, coastal dynamics, freshwater and riverine environments, amongst other areas.

This role will be expected to work with other Senior Advisers in the team and provide leadership for our Lead Advisers.


A substantive part of the role will be to have oversight of offshore wind advice delivery within the Irish Sea.

This exciting work will involve working on offshore wind projects, maintaining an overview of the co-ordination and delivery of Natural England's advice on marine sustainable development.


Requirements of the role will include:

  • Demonstrating expertise in the delivery of marine major casework and be able to maintain an overview of the work and be able to prioritise issues across the marine sector.
  • Supporting effective case handling and delivery of timely and evidencebased advice, working with Lead Advisers, national specialists, Principal Advisers and Managers and attending meetings and hearings as appropriate.
  • Working with Lead Advisers to quality assure advice as set out in our nonfinancial scheme of delegation and to act as a point of escalation to identify risks associated with the delivery of our advice.
  • Participating in the relevant internal networks, including those within the Area Team, and report to the Area Team Manager with Marine oversight to ensure that marine delivery targets, which support major casework, are met.
  • Proactively engaging with key partners and customers to ensure effective communications and excellent stakeholder relationships (both internally and externally).
  • Developing capability and capacity within the Area Team through mentoring, coaching and contributing to relevant learning and development opportunities.
