    Job summary

    Exciting opportunity to work within the Clinical Procurement team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as a Category Manager.

    The job role is very varied, offering daily challenge with rarely 2 days being the same. Main responsibility includes the management of procurement activity for capital equipment provision for large development schemes across a busy hospital site. This often supports improved patient services, added value and technical innovation with clear benefits to the patients of Derriford Hospital and the wider healthcare community.

    The successful candidate will have access to best-in-class procurement training to support the Head of Clinical Procurement with the delivery and management of the Procurement Category Management (CM) non pay savings programme.

    Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS at Risk staff throughout Devon who is able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

    Main duties of the job

    The desired candidate will have fantastic communication skills with the ability to build relationships and provide a professional procurement service.

    Required to regularly meet and engage with stakeholders at all levels within the organisation to ensure procurement support and equipment delivery is co-ordinated for multiple projects across a developing hospital site. Best practice procurement processes followed for compliance with internal and external governance requirements and demonstrated evidence of value delivered as an output of each procurement activity.

    The desire to become a category expert is essential along with ability and confidence to lead procurement strategies and co-ordinate resource to meet conflicting deadlines.

    Demonstrable experience in the development of sourcing strategies is required to ensure further strategies can be developed for designated spend categories.Evidenced engagement with external bodies to include framework providers and regional peers to ensure all procurement activity is conducted in line with public sector procurement management responsibility is a key part of the role and the required job holder will help support individual development and display the respected qualities of good leadership.

  • Extensive demonstrable procurement experience - demonstrable experience of managing the procurement of capital equipment and projects
  • Proven theoretical and practical knowledge with demonstrable experience and expertise in procurement management, procedures, relevant legislation and policies
  • Can demonstrate expert knowledge in the manipulation of various sources of procurement systems data
  • Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience in managing the procurement of collaborative initiatives within the NHS to support local, regional and national procurement initiatives
  • Qualifications

    Essential

  • Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS) or working towards diploma supplemented by equivalent relevant demonstrable experience
  • Commitment to continuing professional development in line with relevant Institute requirement.
