    Library Assistant (30hrs contract)

    This is a part-time position for 30 hours per week covering weekdays, weekends and evenings until 8.00pm. These hours are subject to change with future library needs so please apply if you are flexible to work these shift patterns. This role is based in our Manchester Campus.

    As our Manchester library gets busy, we are recruiting a part-time library assistant to re-enforce the team and services on Saturday openings and during the week.

    The main duties of the post holder are to support the Library Manager and the Library Assistant in the ongoing development and everyday workload of the library resources and the provision of high standards service to students and staff.

    The successful candidates should preferably hold a Certificate in Library Science or Information Management or be experienced in working in Higher Education libraries.

    Knowledge of Cataloguing with MARC21, classification, is advantageous, experience in working with stakeholders such as EBSCO, enthusiasm, team-work and passion for promoting literacy, are essential. Good communication and organisational skills, customer service, flexibility, keen on learning and ICT skills are equally important to this role.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Administer the lifecycle of books acquisitions, journal and e-resource subscriptions.
    • Liaising with Library colleagues, contribute to the maintenance and development of library systems supporting acquisitions and access.
    • Work on the Library support desk, dealing with loans, returns, fines as well as basic and more complicated user enquiries by email, phone or face to face and providing a friendly and efficient service to a wide range of Library users.
    • Work on the implementation of the Library resources by cataloguing and classifying printed material using MARC21 and LC classification system.
    • Provide IT basic Support to students when needed.
    • Participate in project groups and contribute to operational process reviews as required.
    • Participate in promotion of the Library and its services through events and Library tours for new students.
    • Undertake other duties in support of the work of the Library as may be required, particularly as services develop and change. This includes design of informative material (posters, leaflets, etc.), participation on induction days.
    • Shelving duties daily.
    • Maintenance and simple repairs to books, projects, etc.
    • Ability to work across teams, building relationships to ensure a good result and quality service

    Requirements
