    The Lancashire and South Cumbria SPCMHT provides compassionate and expert care to women and birthing people, their families and babies during the perinatal period. We are a multidisciplinary service and work closely with partner agencies, including Maternity, Health Visiting and Adult Mental Health Services.

    We continue to expand our psychological workforce to offer greater access to parent-infant therapies, and have a really exciting opportunity for a Trainee Parent Infant Relationship Therapist to join us.

    You will undertake training in Mentalisation Based Therapy and an Infant Observation and this will be fully funded and supervised. Whilst training, you will hold a caseload, offering parent-infant therapeutic interventions, supported by our Lead Parent Infant Psychotherapist, our Consultant Clinical Psychologist, therapy colleagues and the wider MDT.

    Main duties of the job

    This is an exciting opportunity for a experienced clinician who wishes to specialise in parent-infant therapeutic work in a perinatal setting. This is a development post, where you will undertake relevant additional training and work towards competencies required to practice as a Band 7 PI Relationship Therapist.

    Upon successful completion of training/evidence of competencies, you willmove to Band 7.

    The post-holder will be able to demonstrate that they have a commitment to perinatal and parent/infant mental health and relevant experience working clinically with parents and babies.

    Essential

  • Relevant Core Professional qualification in mental health, social care, OT, Health Visiting Evidence of professional registration Training in Video Interaction Guidance and/or Training in Circle of Security Parenting Meets criteria for training in additional approaches in MBT and an Infant Observation
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Working knowledge of attachment within parent-infant relationships Knowledge of developmental trauma and ACES and the impact on parent infant relationship A working knowledge of the importance of a stable environment and nurturing relationship for healthy development and `brain` development Working knowledge of adult mental health difficulties.
  • Desirable

  • Knowledge and awareness of perinatal specific mental health difficulties such as postpartum psychosis, perinatal OCD and birth trauma. Knowledge of newborn, early infancy and child development, theories of infant and child mental health.   • Specialist clinical experience of working with Parents and Infants/children in a perinatal or early years setting. Willingness to undertake additional training in MBT and Infant Observation as part of the development role A resilience to working with infants in traumatic circumstances, and to offer containment to other team members impacted by the emotional impact of the work. Ability to create safe, emotionally containing space for parents and infants. Working knowledge and experience of trauma informed practice.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of engaging in study whilst working Experience of working clinically with mothers and infants where the mother has significant mental health difficulties. Experience in working reflectively in both 1:1 supervision and group supervision to consider best practice in the context of working with families. Capacity to communicate clearly and effectively about complex issues, including risk, both in written form and verbally. Ability to keep accurate notes and records.
