The Role


The Specialist Consumer Products (SCP) team are a market leading provider of creditor, affinity group Accident & Health (A&H) and mortgage insurance.

The Head of Technical Underwriting is a key individual in ensuring that our Consumer Products deliver the intended value reflecting clear and fair cover and processes with Consumer Duty and regulatory requirements to the fore.

You will work with the underwriters providing support and guidance.

The Head of Technical Underwriting will be a member of the Canopius Conduct Oversight Group.


Responsibilities will include:


  • Setting the framework for delivering products via binders, group or master policies (including associated agreements), CLIPS and the supporting slips for each.
  • Contributing to the product review process, acting as a referral point and reviewer.
  • Updating the team on FCA guidance and requirements as they affect our business.
  • Maintenance of the checklists for recording activity supporting Consumer Duty.
  • Liaising with the Conduct Team in reviewing websites and financial promotions.
  • Assisting with the training of team members building product knowledge and regulatory requirements.
  • Liasing with external advisers on regulatory issues as they affect our products and processes.

Skills and experience:


  • Influencing skills to assist in effecting change and the ongoing maintenance of SCP products.
  • Strong communication skills.
