Job summary:

This is a genuinely exciting time to join the Ministry of Defence if you want to be at the heart of real Defence issues.

You will get to work on a high profile and distinctive portfolio which is rarely out of the news and have an outstanding insight into the captivating world of nuclear.

Established in April 2016, the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) was set up to coordinate all aspects of nuclear business within the MOD; responsible for all submarines (from buying them through to disposal when they reach the end of their life), nuclear warheads, skills, related infrastructure and day-to-day nuclear policy.

DNO consists of the people, equipment and infrastructure required to successfully deter the most utmost threats to our national security and way of life.

Within DNO, the Warhead Directorate leads the UK nuclear warhead programme which provides a stockpile of reliable, safe and effective nuclear warheads to support the UK's strategic nuclear deterrent now and in the future.

The Warhead Directorate has staff based in MOD Main Building, MOD Abbey Wood (Bristol), Aldermaston (Reading) and HM Naval Base Clyde (Scotland).

This post will be based either at Abbey Wood or Aldermaston.

This post is on the MOD Civilian Nuclear Post Control List (PCL) and may attract the Nuclear Recruitment and Retention Allowance (RRA).

This is a discretionary allowance.

The post being listed on the PCL does not mean that the post holder will have an automatic entitlement to receive the RRA.

The NSQEP RRA is not a contractual allowance and can be amended or withdrawn without notice in line with MOD Main and Submarine Delivery Agency policy.

Reserved posts are open to UK nationals only, while non reserved are open to UK, Commonwealth, EEA and certain non-EEA nationals.

Contact your recruitment team if you're unsure about this job's status.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

This post will have responsibilities towards ensuring that all Warhead documentation on the Quality Management System complies with local procedures, attending a variety of wider directorate meetings, promoting quality and supporting business teams, while also having opportunity to pursue your continual professional development to complement your skills and knowledge.

This role is in the DNO Warhead Directorate Safety Quality Assurance Management Team and is one of 4 Quality officers providing support to the SQA Department Head and Quality Manager.

You will be involved in a multitude of activities, from supporting audits, reviewing documentation, recommending quality requirements into contracts, working with our suppliers and providing support to colleagues across the directorate.
