We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Accountant to join our Finance Team.

In this role you will be responsible for the provision of specialist and technical advice to Finance Officers and Districts & Departments.


Key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Supporting the Finance Officer and maintaining an overview of the profiling of the revenue, capital and grant budgets.
  • Coordinating the budget upload ensuring that this reconciles to the PCC approved budget.
  • Coordinating and preparing working papers for the budget setting process
  • Reviewing the BI Budget Model to ensure virements are actioned in a timely and accurate manner
  • Providing direction and leadership to Finance Officers.
  • Maintaining an overview of the month end processes.
  • Maintaining the Capital Programme.
  • Carrying out monthend capital procedures including the completion and consolidation of all capital monitoring returns (CMR's).
  • Coordinating, developing and producing the annual Asset Management Plan to feed into the Capital Programme and Medium-Term Resourcing Strategy.
  • Supporting the development, creation and amendment of financial reports.

Skills and experience:


  • Qualified Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) or CIMA accountant with full membership (Band F) / Studying for CCAB / CIMA (Band E).
  • Significant, recent management accounting experience.
  • Up to date with current accounting issues. Good, practical accounting knowledge particularly in relation to management accounting.
  • Demonstrate IT literacy including advanced Excel, with significant experience of large, complex ERP systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to use a range of communication techniques.
  • Experience of building strong working relationships and establishing personal credibility with senior managers and budget holders.
  • Understand personal and professional strengths and development needs and be able to evidence the steps taken to enhance your continuing professional development.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a highly pressurised environment.
