    Job summary

    Ambrose Avenue Group Practice is looking for an experienced and professional medical receptionist to join our growing team on a full time basis.

    You will excel in providing first-rate customer care, to help make a positive impact on our local community. You will be able to work flexibly in a team of receptionists on a rota basis, to cover our surgery opening hours.

    Main duties of the job

  • Answering the telephone
  • Dealing with all enquiries from patients attending the surgery
  • Booking and cancelling appointments
  • Booking in patients arriving for appointments
  • Dealing with non-clinical enquiries regarding prescriptions
  • Recording home visit requests
  • Tidying up waiting area and clinicians rooms
  • Filing of notes, correspondence, results etc.
  • Taking results via the telephone from hospitals
  • Telephoning patients with results/scans etc., at the doctors request
  • Telephoning patients when necessary
  • Attending staff meetings
  • Chaperoning for patients when necessary.
  • Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues on an overtime basis.

  • Ability to prioritise;
  • Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
  • Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
  • Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
  • Strong IT and administration skills.

  • Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.
