    Apprentice Catering Assistant - Alton Community Hospital, Alton, England

    Job Title: Apprentice Catering Assistant Salary: 11.45Location: Alton Community Hospital, Chawton Park Road, England, GU34 1RJReporting to: SupervisorHours/working pattern: 35 hours over 5 days
    You do not need to have any experience to apply for this vacancy as full training will be provided as part of the Apprenticeship
    On completion of the Apprenticeship you will achieve the Production Chef L2 and become a qualified Catering Assistant.
    Candidates must be aged 18 + and will be required to complete DBS and occupational health checks if successful.
    As an apprentice catering assistant, you will be based in a busy kitchen at Alton Community Hospital. You will be responsible for preparing and serving the kind of food that truly brightens our clients' and customers' days, all within the market-leading food service company in the UK.
    Tasks could include, but not limited to:
  • Acknowledge and serve all customers in a polite and friendly manner.
  • Take regular meal orders using electronic tablet system
  • Receive all stock, store and check for quality and quantity; ensuring that all stock is dated and rotated.
  • Receiving, storing, preparing and regenerating food items to the brand standard
  • Ensure all displays, counters and seating areas comply with Company/Statutory health and hygiene requirements (temperature control, food wastage and stock control documents)
  • The post holder will be expected to probe and record food temperatures using calibrated equipment
  • Assist in the preparation of hospitality as required
  • Use machinery as shown and taught, ensuring that the equipment is used safely and in accordance with current regulations and company policies and report any faults to the duty supervisor
  • Clean all work areas during and after use and remove all waste to the appropriate area
  • Maintain record of temperatures and report any variance
  • Report for duty in good time, clean and tidy, and wearing a correctly maintained uniform as per the company standard
  • Comply with statutory legal and company requirements for fire, health and safety, and food safety
  • Attend and comply with all training requested by your manager
  • Assist in all general cleaning duties where required
  • Demonstrate professional 'best' working practice in all your duties
  • Comply will all Health and Safety legislation which is laid out in the company's Health & Safety Manual (COSHH procedures in the selection, use and recovery of cleaning chemicals and manual handing etc)
  • Ensure hygiene levels are maintained in accordance with current legislation and provide a safe environment for customers and staff
  • Develop good lines of communications and relationships at all levels within your team and with other colleagues and customers
  • Be flexible in all other duties and areas in response to the business / customer / management needs
  • Perform any reasonable and practical instructions as requested by the supervisor appropriate to the needs of the HospitalThere is no supervision of other staff.
    Alongside your day-to-day duties, you will complete the Production Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship. This is a nationally recognised qualification, and the primary objective of the Production Chef is to work with centrally developed standardised recipes and menus, producing food often in high volumes. You will either be attending college 1 day per week or you will learn 'in-unit'. You will be supported through this qualification by your Personal Development Coach who will visit you at your place work every 6-10 weeks. You will also attend 6 workshops including an Introduction Day at a location outside your normal place of work. All travel expenses will be covered by your employer. You are not expected to complete any of your Apprenticeship work outside of your normal working hours and will be given set time each week to complete your work.
