The focus of this role is to manage a team of finance staff in building partnerships with senior management stakeholders across the university on a cross-section of financial, accounting activities and projects.

The aim is to drive impact and understanding of financial reporting on business performance and analysis, enabling a link to financial data to inform business strategies.


Responsibilities:


  • Lead and develop the team of Assistant Finance Business Partners (x2) and a clerical support team
  • Lead the finances for universities largest Faculty and Open College of the Arts (separate legal entity) including oversight of P&L, B/S and responsibility for the preparation of quarterly forecast/ budgets
  • Be the first point of contact for Curriculum finance reviews, large headcount management circa 2,000 staff (funding perspective), research bids, partnership opportunities, working closely with various levels of faculty stakeholders.
  • Build and lead relationships with budget holders and stakeholders
  • Lead, challenge and manage the budgeting monitoring, forecasting and financial planning
  • Lead, manage, delegate and develop a Business partnering team.
  • Supporting strategic and tactical projects and proposals as appropriate
  • Financial systems management
  • Advice and support in revenue generation from awarding bodies, public funds and bids, contracts and tenders
  • Year-End guidance and support to key Client stakeholders
Skills, Experience & Background

  • Extensive accounting experience and must be a qualified CCAB/CIMA Accountant
  • Ideally come from a finance role in a complex organisation (ideally volume driven performance module/ student numbers in a university faculty example), be comfortable with robust discussions and decision making.
  • It's key that the individual is approachable but backed up by strong partnering, analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience of SAP and/or complex systems is beneficial but not essential.
  • Excellent team development and leadership skills
  • Intermediate to advanced level Excel experience
  • Experience of systems development
  • Excellent negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills
