    A market leader in Lloyd's and the London market , this long-established London-based team forms part of the London Wholesale Casualty division in the UK & Lloyd's business unit. They underwrite general liability risks for a vast array of businesses around the world. The portfolio includes risks via the open market and via facilities and delegated authority arrangements, ranging from railways in Australia to ski resorts in Canada to chemical plants in South America and to hotels in the Caribbean. Every day is different and presents new challenges and we strive to find tailored solutions for our insureds that protect their businesses for the long-term.

    At this level the role holder has responsibility for manag ing all aspects of the underwriting , includ ing but not limited to portfolio profitability, account pricing, portfolio rate change, renewal retention, marketing, new business production, development of staff and broker and client management .

    The role holder must possess broad expertise across various industries and territories as well as strong technical skills in the management of facilities and delegated underwriting authority contracts . Further, the role holder will act as a senior contact for brokers and clients as well as managing a number of the underwriting staff in the team. They will assist the head of the team in delivering the required strategic growth and development of the business , in line with the business plan, and liaising with the senior management where required . The role holder is required to maintain visibility in the marketplace, thereby reinforcing AXA XL's brand in the community . Travel to accomplish this objective is required.

    The role holder will support AXA XL's cross-sell objectives by understanding capabilities across other lines of business and maintaining open communication with colleagues in other departments.

    This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland's Fitness and Probity regime.

    What will your essential responsibilities include?

    • Execute departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics including verification of appropriate risk appetite to ensure profitability.
    • Underwrite a core portion of the portfolio whilst having a strong knowledge of the book as a whole .
    • Leading, developing and proactively managing a team of underwriters.
    • Analysis o f submissions including applications, policy wording s , risk reports, loss runs and financial reports.
    • Imparting your thorough working knowledge of underwriting principles, procedures and controls to team members , including the management of underwriting referrals .
    • Effective relationship management with clients and broker partners initiating opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
    • Maintain visibility in the market by proactively marketing to insureds and brokers.
    • Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
    • Ensuring client satisfaction as it relates to fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
    • In coordination with other internal teams, determining appropriate process and controls for the management of the portfolio.

    You will report to the Head of International Wholesale Liability .

    We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

    • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) preferred , along with professional designations.
    • Experience in open market, lineslip and delegated authority contracts.
    • Experience of the Lloyd's market and the international liability marketplace.
    • P olicy development and broker management in the respective line of business.
    • Experience of hands-on team leadership / management / supervision demonstrating increasing responsibilities and knowledge of team motivation principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of functionality of systems including technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems .
    • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills combined with a great work ethic.
    • Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication including active listening skills, networking, marketing and collaboration skills evidencing public speaking and presentation experience.
    • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, producers and brokers , as well as internal stakeholders .
    • Excellent time management skills; ability to multitask .
