    As the Site Manager you will be expected to:

  • Lead the project at the wind farm site for Nordex:
  • Supporting the project manager with site planning, preparation and execution
  • Overseeing and controlling civil and electrical BOP works in anticipation of turbine delivery
  • Leading the arrival at site, erection and commissioning of the turbines, so that the wind farm can be handed over to the customer and Nordex Service team safely, on-time, and to excellent quality.
  • Managing all aspects of safety and environmental requirements at the wind farm site.
  • Building a strong relationship with the customer, other partners and stakeholders at the wind farm site
  • Managing all Nordex suppliers at the site including erection & transportation companies
  • Creating a successful and enjoyable team - with team members drawn from various support departments, including erection supervisors and commissioning engineers, and local service engineers.
  • Provide the Project Manager with all necessary reporting and support. This will include: reporting of progress; support for claims for extension of time and/or costs to our customers and suppliers; feedback of data on the installed equipment; and formal feedback on quality issues at site.
  • Work within Nordex processes to manage and report progress on the project. Provide constructive suggestions on how the process can be improved and work on specific process improvement actions as part of the Nordex UK, and Nordex group Project Management teams
  • Key Accountabilities

  • To understand thoroughly all aspects of the project and specification documents for an individual contract.
  • Instigate safe and effective construction methods compliant with company and statutory health & safety requirements.
  • Resolve or recommend solutions to overcome operational problems, achieve commercial objectives and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • To be responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety & Environmental issues for site activities.
  • Conduct quality control and ensure world class safety culture.
  • To understand thoroughly all aspects of the project and specification documents for an individual contract.

  • To plan, implement, review and up-date construction programmes in conjunction with the Project Manager to fulfil contractual terms.
  • To carry out the site induction and ensure that all site staff and technicians are properly briefed during daily tool box talks.
  • To manage as effectively as possible all construction activities on-site and best use of plant & labour resources.
  • Ensure that high standard welfare facilities are installed and maintained on-site.
  • To attend safety, progress and technical meetings and to liaise with the client and their representatives in a professional and competent manner.
  • To maintain the Project Execution Plan ensuring that all requirements of the health & safety legislation are met and adhered to.
  • To maintain site files, daily diaries, record operations and progress against plans.
  • To work closely with the Project Manager on all commercial aspects of the project ensuring that appropriate records are kept especially of variances to maximise recovery of unexpected delay costs.
  • Maximise where ever possible the financial return from an individual project.
  • Maintain and up-date personal skills to meet current and future operational needs.
  • I addition to these duties, employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required.
  • Experience and qualifications

  • Preferable HND / Degree in Engineering Discipline (Mechanical / Electrical or Civil Engineering
  • Understanding of CDM Coordinator or PSCS role
  • CSCS Site Manager accreditation and or Irish FAS Safe-pass
  • Construction Skills SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
  • First Aid at Work Certificate
  • Manual Handling
  • Fire Fighting
  • Working and Rescue from Height – from a Renewables UK approved provide
  • Person profile

  • Self-reliance. Although Site Managers receive specialist support from the rest of the team, they will often be under pressure in remote areas with a small team.
  • The determination, creativity and good humour to work through the inevitable challenges we face in a rapidly growing and changing business & market
  • Leadership and team forming skills, including good communication.
  • Planning and risk management. The ability to define, delegate and communicate objectives.
  • A practical, technical appreciation of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering (LV and MV), an understanding of heavy lifting operations and working at heights.
  • The ability to learn quickly about all aspects of wind farms, including the technology of wind turbines, and the Nordex way of working. Although site managers are supported by Nordex specialists, our site managers are required to build a robust knowledge of the turbines.
  • The ability to work with team mates and partners from different countries.
  • Ability to work in a structured way ensuring that necessary quality control, safety processes, and paperwork systems are followed.
  • A good appreciation of health safety and environmental issues in a site environment. SMTS or IOSH qualification is an advantage.
