Description

Islington has a fantastic track record and history of community gardening in the borough and over recent years has performed well in London in Bloom in partnership with the Islington Gardeners regularly achieving Gold standard supported by a strong Islington in Bloom campaign.

There is currently huge interest and demand for new gardening opportunities and for the introduction of more "greening" to our housing estates.

To continue to drive horticultural improvements on our estates and support our growing number of community gardeners, Islington Council is creating a new dedicated Housing Community Gardening team, with the capacity, knowledge and skills to improve the quality of our Housing Estates.

Our ambition is that this team will aim to:

Make ongoing and sustained improvements to the quality of the horticultural features on housing estates.

Provide training and support to existing estate based gardening groups.

Support the development of new estate based gardening groups.

Provide capacity to respond and resolve to requests/complaints about horticultural issues on estates in a timely fashion.

Provide the resource and skill to support exciting new planting designs and substantially improve biodiversity on estates.

The role of a Skilled Community Gardener, is to support the Head Community Gardener who leads this team.
