Working: 12 hours per week 7.30am - 1.30pm WORKING DURING THE WEEK AND ALTERNATE WEEKENDS

Salary:
£11.10 per hour

From time
- to
- time volunteers will work in the kitchen under the supervision of the Cook, although this help is valuable as with all other volunteer posts it cannot be relied upon and if unavailable Cooks are expected to be able to carry out their duties without volunteers.


JOB PURPOSE:


To work with staff and/or volunteers to prepare and cook meals for the Day Centres, meals on wheels and any other catering provided from our kitchen.

To ensure the kitchen is maintained to a clean and hygienic condition.


Specific Duties:


To undertake food preparation, cooking, portioning and serving up of over 100 meals per day (a mixture of day centre meals and community meals) as required by the menu of the day.


To ensure efficient use of food to avoid waste and maintain quality, and to ensure correct portioning and serving of meals.

To undertake the preparation of special diets if required

To keep records of food used, temperature checks etc. as required.

To help maintain accurate up to date records of food costs.


To ensure kitchen, equipment and utensils are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition and to ensure all washing up is carried out to a high standard of hygiene.

To assist with all food ordering, safe storage, rotational use of goods.

To undertake training as required.


To undertake other related duties when requested by management and to assist other staff members with their duties, covering holidays and sick leave.

To work closely and amicably with other staff and volunteers working in the kitchen and serving food. Working in a team to ensure safe working practices associated with Health & Safety and Food Hygiene

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • A minimum of Basic Food Hygiene.
  • Good basic cooking skills.
  • To have good basic numeracy and literacy.
  • To be able to work to deadlines
