    Lab Chemist


    • This vacancy is for a Lab QC Chemist within BAE Systems Land UK at Glascoed, near Usk in South Wales. The key responsibilities will be carrying out analytical testing of materials to support manufacturing and development activities on site and ensure the testing is undertaken in line with laboratory procedures and meets customer delivery requirements. The Lab Chemists have to liaise with on-site customers and would report to the Laboratory Manager.
    • The work will involve testing explosive and non-explosive materials to support various projects and will involve a variety of chemical and physical analytical methods, including wet chemistry and instrumented techniques.
    Core Duties

    • Undertaking chemical testing within the requirements of good laboratory practice
    • Following prescribed analytical test methods in support of Quality Control / Quality Assurance requirements for manufacturing,
    • Analytical / chemical testing for development project work
    • Working within the Safe Systems of Work process within the Laboratory and Factory
    • Assisting in the development of analytical procedures/methods to maintain and improve laboratory capability for accuracy and precision,
    • Other continuous improvement activities
    • Maintaining instruments / calibration activities to ensure maintained capability
    • Liaising with customers and the Laboratory Manager

    The role holder is responsible for taking reasonable care of their own health and safety ensuring high standards for safety, health and environment (SHE) in our organisation are maintained.

    This includes co-operating and following all reasonable instruction, information and training reporting work-related hazards or incidents and using all equipment for the purpose intended.

    • Basic knowledge of Laboratory Health and Safety requirements
    • BSc Chemistry or Higher.
    • Previous experience in analytical chemistry is preferred
    • Previous study / work in a chemistry laboratory environment would be acceptable
    • Strong communication skills
