    Position: USV Field Service Technician (Mechanical) Freelance

    Qualification: Marine Engineering

    Location: Travel within the UK & Ireland is essential (Shore based)

    About XOCEAN

    XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed a marine robotic system known as an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV).

    Overview

    This role will provide key support for USV operations including initial mobilisation and road transportation. Responsible for planned and unplanned maintenance of the USV's in Field locations and carrying out the on-site marine operations including launch and recovery of the USV. Suited to a well-rounded experienced Engineer or Technician with a Marine background.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Mechanical servicing of marine equipment including diesel generators to a very high standard.
    • Maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems onsite.
    • Mechanical and electrical fault findings, working with remote technical support to diagnose and rectify issues.
    • Compliance with and promotion of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment standards during all aspects of daily tasks.
    • Participate/Lead in daily Toolbox talks.
    • Mobilisation of USVs for projects including road transport and launch/recovery at project locations.
    • Boarding support vessels to monitor USV movements near shore and in congested harbour areas.
    • Provide local, on the ground, assessment of conditions and circumstances to aid project decisions.
    • Monitoring site tooling and consumables levels.
    • Follow standard operating procedures and company maintenance processes appropriate to the role.
    • Maintaining high levels of organisation and cleanliness whilst carrying out maintenance tasks.

    On occasion this role may involve:

    • Conducting general maintenance of vehicles and trailers.
    • Being responsible for training other team members to the required standards, including coaching and mentoring of others.

    Requirements: Essential Skills / Experience

    • Minimum 5 years' expertise as Marine Engineer or Technician.
    • Strong mechanical fitting ability with experience of marine engine/generators.
    • Significant industry experience in a similar role.
    • Keen interest in marine activities.
    • Hold full clean drivers' license with BE license minimum.

    Desirable Experience

    • Small Craft Experience.
    • Basic electrical knowledge.
    • Approved STCW Engine Course (AEC - MCA).
    • Basic Sea survival certificate.
