The Trading Standards Service has a key role in protecting residents and visitors from fraudulent and illegal practices as well as tackling rogue trading practices and supporting honest businesses to grow and thrive.

We are also part of the Council's Public Health directorate and play a key role in advancing the health of residents and visitors to the County.


Role/Key responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Trading Standards professional to join the team.

Primarily based in the Fair Trading - Investigations team, you will be able to maintain a varied and challenging caseload and work closely with other team members to meet service objectives.

In addition, part of this role will focus on the delivery of underage sales projects under the direction of a Principal Officer.


Key responsibilities:


  • Maintain a varied case load with limited supervision across a wide range of Trading Standards functions, including, doorstep crime, scams, underage sales, IP and other areas within fair trading.
  • Investigate complaints in accordance with service standards and in compliance with legislative requirements and relevant codes of practice.
  • Conduct inspections, surveys and other regulatory interventions.
  • Provide advice to both consumers and business on their rights and obligations.
  • Support an intelligence led approach to identify contraventions and follow up with appropriate enforcement activity based on assessed risk.
  • Lead and manage projects.
  • Coach and support junior officers and take an active role in their training.

Requirements:


You will be required to work outside core hours when necessary, which can include some weekend working, and may on occasion be required to work in other teams across the service.

A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential.
