Digital Horizons

The Digital Horizons team is a small project team of police officers and staff working to develop and enhance the use of digital investigation and intelligence.

Digital Horizons primarily supports the core units of Digital Intelligence Services (DIS) (ANPR/Internet Intelligence & Investigation/Digital Operations/CIU).

However, Digital Horizons projects often reach far beyond DIS and have an organisational and in a few cases, national impact.

Digital Horizons has evolved over the past 6 years to focus on four main areas of work:

Horizon Scanning:

Working with our internal stakeholders we continue to learn more about the digital challenges our colleagues encounter, using it as a foundation to continually scan the technological horizon for current and new innovations that could enhance opportunities for Digital Intelligence Services to support the Met.

This can include engaging with external suppliers, attending conferences, working with academia and external parties through regional and national working groups.

Problem Solving:
The team is often approached by departments across the MPS for our knowledge of digital solutions. As trained business analysts we work with departments and teams to understand the challenges they are facing. Where we can, we will share ideas and solutions based on the experience of the team.

This can also include the evaluation of current software to ensure it is delivering value for Digital Intelligence Services and the wider organisation.

This really is an amazing role if you have a passion for all things digital and data.

You must be self-disciplined, motivated, organised, bigger picture orientated and invested in seeing projects through to the finish despite seemingly impossible obstacles.

The Role:

As a Digital Intelligence Data Specialist, you will be involved in providing data science support and expertise to the units of Digital Intelligence Services as necessary.

You will design and create bespoke software and integrate external solutions and scripts to assist in operations and strategic work.

Scope (Tasks & Responsibilities)
- provide a rapid response to operational requirements
- engage in longer term projects as required
- tactical development of scripts/solutions
- tactical development of hardware exploits

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today's complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London's communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.

As a Disability Confident Committed Employer the Met have committed to ensuring that disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.
