Description

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic colleague to join our friendly and well established Care of the Elderly team at the Royal Preston Hospital, part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Elderly-Frailty Department provides acute elderly medicine services and a dedicated Acute Frailty Unit. Our Surgical Liaison (POPS) services provide proactive in-reach into GI surgery, Vascular and Major Trauma areas. There is an established specialist outpatient falls service. The development and expansion of the Elderly Medicine and Major Trauma services is high on the Trust's agenda.

You will also be expected to contribute towards future departmental developments and 7-day working. There will be opportunity to develop a sub-specialty interest of your choice to support our Elderly-Frailty strategy.

You will contribute to the general medical rota on a pro-rate basis. There will be opportunity to grow as a clinical teacher supervising various grades of trainee. You will be supported to join our accredited consultant leadership and management training programmes.

You will join the GIM consultant on-call rota (currently 1 in 18). The on-call consultant undertakes a 'post-take' ward round, reviewing patients between 17.00hrs and 21.00hrs. They will typically see between 10 and 15 new patients.

Weekend post-take ward rounds take place in the morning and evening to review new medical patients and any other in-patients as necessary.

We are working towards 7-day working in the medical specialties and you will be expected to contribute towards this (with consideration for time-off in lieu for weekend working).

The job plan involves a rotation system: two-months on, followed by two months off, the acute elderly care ward. Cross cover with other colleagues for Annual Leave is built into this system.

It is anticipated that the 'special interest' sessions will be used to further develop the surgical in-reach service into another surgical area, but this is flexible and open to negotiation.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust is a large and high profile teaching Centre with a range of tertiary services including Neurosciences, Renal, Oncology, Vascular and Major Trauma services.

Lancashire is an attractive area to live and has many facilities available locally with easy access to the beauty of the Lake District and excellent road & rail links with the rest of the mainland UK including Manchester and Liverpool airports.
