Principal Software Engineer in Test (Python, Automation) - Edinburgh (Hybrid) - To 85K + Bonus


Lorien's client, with offices very commutable from Edinburgh and the surrounding regions, is looking to recruit the skills of a Principal Software Engineer in Test on a permanent basis.


You'll use your strong knowledge of Test Automation - as well as hands-on Python skills and knowledge of DevOps practices - to play a key and varied role as a leading technical figure in their R&D tech function, and use your expertise to increase and improveautomation across the board, ultimately benefiting their great product line of devices deployed around the globe in the long run.

An outline of the role:


  • Identify and implement software automation improvements, and get handson while doing so
  • Monitoring software quality, implementing solutions to ensure this can be done efficiently, and enabling Developers to be able to track quality in as close to real time as can be
  • Acting as a technical leading figure across tooling and infrastructure builds, working with the wider DevOps function to do so as well as plan out automation strategies
  • Enhancing development of processes and practices across the tech function
  • Develop automation tests, and enabling parallel testing, across Virtual and HW environments

Skills/Knowledge:


  • Strong Testing knowledge and skill set, ability to work in an Agile team and a strong grasp of:


  • Python

  • must have hands-on Python programming skills


  • Test Automation development

  • With tools such as PyWinAuto, Squish, Appium, WinApp Driver
  • Windows and Linux environments
  • Docker and ideally other technologies around DevOps e.g., Jenkins, Bamboo
  • Ideally past dealings with external partners/stakeholders as well as customers
  • Ability to lead a technical team of testing focused personnel as they tackle automation test system design and other projects
  • Willingness to play a technical, leading role within an R&D style function and crossfunctionally liaise with other leaders across varying areas of the organisation
