    Main duties of the job Preventing healthcare associated infections remains a high priority. In order to ensure best practice and best care is provided to our patients you will work along side the specialist nurses to participate in the development and co-ordination of an effective infection control service across the Trust.

    Ensure policies are up to date and adhered to by working closely with staff, demonstrating good practice, providing education and training and managing relevant promotional projects.

    Responsible, with other members of the Infection Prevention and Control Team, for prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection in The Maidstone & Tunbridge wells NHS Trust.     The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

    We employ more than 7,000 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

Job description Job responsibilities Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

    Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw- if this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

    Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children).

    • NMC Level 1 Registration. Evidence of professional and education development at an advanced level
    • ENB 998 or other relevant teaching qualification.

    • Infection control module
    Experience Essential
    • At least 3 years post registration experience. Experience at ward/department management level. Some experience of teaching
    • Some experience of teaching
    • Understanding of basic principles of infection control
    • Awareness of current targets and recent legislation relating to infection control
    • Working knowledge of computers (be computer literate) and information technology with willingness to develop further skills
    • Understanding of current professional nursing issues
    Desirable
    • Experience in infection prevention and control practice
