We are an executive agency of HMRC with around 4,000 people and are currently looking for Rent Officers to perform vital roles within the business.


Job description:


The Role:


In this role, the post holder will have the opportunity to represent the VOA on regular visits to lettings agents and landlords for the purpose of collecting rental information.

You will use your comprehensive interpersonal and people engagement skills to build strong relationships with our external partners and contribute to our reputation with the public.

Rent Officers have 3 main functions.

The Registration of a Fair Rent, rental valuations for Housing Benefit purposes and research and acquisition of a representative sample of residential lettings information.

Responsibilities:

The Rent Officer role sits at the heart of our business here in the VOA.

  • Deal with issues associated with data protection legislation addressing any concerns that letting agents or landlords have.
  • For Office of National Statistics (ONS) outputs
  • Conduct monthly quality assurance processes to account for errors and exceptions within the established timeframes.
  • Identify and respond to housing benefit, fair rent, and LHA enquiries on the telephone, on site and in writing.
  • Schedule collection activities and write up reports using market feedback gathered from data sources.
  • Determine valuations for Housing Benefit purposes in accordance with legislation and Housing Benefit regulations
  • Register Fair Rents under The Rent Act 197
  • Inspect properties for the purposes of Housing Benefit or Fair Rent Act determinations.

Essential Requirements

  • Have an interest in and desire to learn more about property and valuation.
  • Be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to deliver such communications.
  • Able to comply with established guidelines and comply with VOA security policy as required.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage a diverse workload and deliver to deadlines.
  • Selfmotivated, flexible, and prepared to work across a range of duties in a team environment to deliver aims and objectives.
  • Be customer focussed and have strong customer service skills. You will need to be a personable and persuasive character as you will have regular contact with external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel on a regular basis. For posts outside London, Rent Officers may be required to cover large geographical areas

  • Hold a driving licence.
