    Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.     Job overview

    To work within a multidisciplinary team offering full comprehensive assessments and interventions in a range of settings, and evaluate the mental health care to children, young people and their families in line with local and national guidelines.

    To provide regular and on-going consultation, joint work, training and advice to other agency staff in relation to child and adolescent mental health to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

    Main duties of the job

    CLINICAL

    • To provide full clinical assessments of children, young people and their families referred to CAMHS in a variety of setting and situations including the ward duty rota. You may be required to work weekends and evenings.
    • To manage a clinical caseload, comprising of assessments and ongoing direct therapeutic interventions to children, young people and their parents/ carers. This will include regular liaison and collaborative working with other agencies i.e. social services and education.
    • To regularly discuss clinical issues and concerns with the CAMHS Team Leader, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and colleagues regarding on going therapeutic work.

You will also provide regular and on-going consultation, joint work, training and advice to other agency staff in relation to child and adolescent mental health to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    PROFESSIONAL

    • Fully participate in the appraisals and personal development review process.
    • Maintain and develop own professional skills and knowledge. Undertake all mandatory training and continuing professional development to ensure professional knowledge is current and complies with national guidelines and Trust policy.
    • Maintain appropriate professional appearance at all times.
    • Ensure Professional Registration is current.

    MANAGERIAL

    • To ensure agreed assessments and therapeutic work is undertaken within national and local target times.
    • To undertake PDR meetings with junior staff.
    • To provide caseload management/supervision to junior staff.

    GENERAL

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

    • Registered professional qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, OT or other equivalent qualification

    Desirable criteria

    • Post registration qualification in child & adolescent mental health or qualification in therapeutic approaches with children, young people, parents or carers
    • Qualification in teaching, assessing and mentoring of students.

    Experience

    Essential criteria

    • Relevant post qualifying experience of working within children and families
    • Significant post- registered qualification experience with children, adolescents and families in the area of mental health
    • Evidence of experience working in a community setting as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Evidence of carrying out comprehensive assessments and care plans
    • Evidence of collaborative working with other services.
    • Evidence of experience and/or training in supervising staff

    Personal

    Essential criteria

    • Evidence of ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
    • Evidence of ability to work as an effective member of a team
    • Evidence of ability to work under pressure
    • Evidence of ability to exercise a high level of Judgment and decision-making.

    • Evidence of ability to keep clear and accurate records.

Please note, you will be required to repay the cost on appointment. This will be collected via a salary deduction. You can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months from your salary or as a one-off payment on commencement in post. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered. Currently the charges are - Basic DBS check £22.00, Standard DBS check £22.00 and Enhanced DBS check £42.00.

    You are encouraged where possible, to register for the DBS update service. This is an annual registration fee of £13. By registering for the update service you will not have the additional cost of repeated disclosures.

    Should you withdraw your application, you may be required to reimburse the cost of the DBS check.

    DBS checks remain free of charge for volunteer positions.
