GROUP MEDIA DIRECTOR - MEDIA


As Group Media Director, you will be responsible for leading the major accounts within the agency on a day-to-day basis.

GMDs are some of the most senior & influential roles in the department, taking accountability for driving all resources to achieve strategicagency & client goals, assuming commercial responsibility for growth, inspiring & mobilizing teams to excel.


Alongside their peers:

the Media Practice Leads (Search, Social, DVA, Affiliates, Commerce & SEO) GMDs form the wider media leadership team (currently14 individuals).

Most of our larger accounts are pan-market (typically EMEA), requiring experience of managing multi-market media accounts, building & leveraging relationships with partner group agencies.


Primary Responsibilities

1) Client Relationship & Commercial Development:

  • Lead the day-to-day relationship with all key clients
  • Lead the development of a commercial strategy (client mapping, account planning & roadmap) to set twin mutual goals of client business performance & agency revenues
  • Maximise TRR & PRIP/Service scores
  • Identify & deliver unmet client needs with strategy & executive support
  • Ensure client financial operational hygiene across the team: accuracy & pace of media bookings & reconciliations in London & Gurgaon
  • Swift resolution of Payment Queries
  • Weekly revenue forecasting, liaising with Media Ops Lead Commercial Director & Executive team to drive PE

2) Team & Resource inspiration, connectivity & leadership

  • Inspiring & mobilising all resources behind the strategic account plan
  • Taking ownership for & setting a common culture of excellence & confidence on the account
  • Tracking & reporting of all resource requirements & priorities between the Practice Leads, the Media Leadership Team, Finance & the wider Ops team
  • Making a simple business case for any resourcing requirements

3) Focusing the team for continuous operational excellence

  • Tracking optimal balance of resources vs revenues & client commercial commitments
  • Reduce scope creep & liaising with executive team to manage overburn
  • Maintenance of reporting hours & resource forecasting & alignment with Media Ops Lead & the broader Ops team

Mandatory Requirements

  • Integrated media leadership: running large combined on&offline accounts.
  • Experience running multimarket accounts, setting clear performance expectations & motivating local market resources to provide a consistent cross market service
  • Excellent client consulting skills
  • Team directionsetting, leadership & influencing skills to mobilise & connect disparate agency skillsets around a singular shared development focus
  • Experience in discerning & pushing for strategic, planning & executional excellence from the wider team. Whilst not a specialist perse the GMD needs to know what specialist excellence looks like & how to mobilise the resources around them to do the bestwork of their lives collectively.
  • Commercial acumen: we believe that sustainable growth is achieved via mutually beneficial & transparent commercial development with our clients. But this is underpinned by adhering to good commercial practice, from reporting through to financial operationsensuring this is happening whilst tracking profitability

Additional Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the client relationship & development of the strategic account plan that underpins it & the TRR results produced
  • Motivate & mobilise agency & wider group resources to excel on the accounts & enable the team to do the best work of their lives: awardsgrade work etc.
  • Be business minded: providing focus, targets & clear expectations about each individual's contribution, playingin specialist & senior resources when needed to maximise results
  • Take ownership of achieving excellence on your accounts, troubleshooting, escalating issues for resolution, addressing delivery & performance issues & undertaking tasks to build team morale.
  • Work with the departmental media management team: the CMO, Head of Media, Head of Client Experience, Head of Planning & Head of Media Ops to ensure your needs are escalated across resourcing, commercials etc whilst providing timely updates about performance& revenue forecasting.
  • Awareness of terms of Master Service Agreement/Contract, SLA commitments, R&Rs, WOW & flagging/escalating when executive support is required before issues expand.
  • Conduct timely, fair & accurate objective setting & performance reviews for direct reports, using established templates & support from your line manager
  • Daytoday leadership of a TBD pandepartment project for personal development, agency visibility & per our "Exponential Growth" vision
  • Involvement in the new business process, either leading a small opportunity or playing a keys support role in a large pitch

Useful Experience:


  • Familiarity with standard digital media operational systems & tools including: MediaOcean; MediaTools etc
  • Familiarity with industry operating & workflow systems & 3rd parties: JIRA, ASANA, TRELLO, RedMill etc
  • Must have excellent time management skills
