This is Us - Volunteer Support Officer

Fixed term until 31 December 2024

Up to £27,784 depending on experience (pending pay award)

37 hours available - Full-Time/Part-Time/Job Share will be considered

Based at one of our Westmorland and Furness offices

Hybrid working is available

There may be occasions where County-wide travel may be required

Overview of Role
To support the delivery of the UK Shared Prosperity funded project 'This is Us'.

The Volunteer Support Officer will act as the first point of contact for Cumbria CVS volunteering enquiries in Westmorland & Furness.

The Officer will develop and deliver initiatives to raise the profile of volunteering in Westmorland & Furness, including the benefits this brings to Voluntary and Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations.

This role will support those organisations to recruit and provide brokerage to new volunteers and develop new volunteering opportunities, alongside support with good practice in volunteer management, and recognising the value and contribution volunteers make to the local community.


Key Duties
The purpose of the role is to provide key support to volunteers and local VCFSE organisations in Westmorland & Furness in the field of volunteering, through:

  • Improving skills and confidence of voluntary organisations and volunteers.
  • Supporting the coordination of delivery activities for organisations to recruitment and retain volunteers.
  • Support effective communication with organisations, volunteers, and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on volunteering statistics for this project, ensuring all volunteers and organisations utilise the Cumbria CVS Volunteering Opportunities database for monitoring and reporting purposes for the project.

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to monitor and deliver against a set budget, forecasting changes on a quarterly basis
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Able to present confidently and professionally to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience of working with or supporting volunteers
  • Experience of working with or supporting local third sector organisations and community groups
  • Able to liaise, communicate and facilitate meetings with a range of individuals, partners and stakeholders.
