Underwriter - Southampton
Job Summary:
The Underwriter will support SME Lending's underwriting process to ensure the integrity and quality of new business proposals and the SME Lending portfolio.
Working Hours:
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with a onehour lunch break.
- Hybrid working model with 2 days per week expected in the office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure punctual completion of annual reviews.
- Assist in preparing credit papers for submission to the Credit Committee.
- Foster open communication culture and twoway interaction.
- Initiate continuous improvement initiatives by challenging processes for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.
- Cultivate strong relationships within SME Lending businesses and the Bank.
- Communicate proficiently with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Adhere to online training and regulatory reading schedules.
- Provide support to Senior Credit Managers as needed.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of proven underwriting experience in a vendor/direct asset finance lending environment, including holding a personal lending mandate.
- Demonstrable proficiency across various assets and lending structures.
- Experience in unsecured lending transactions within commercial lending.
- Familiarity with direct and broker origination models.
- Comprehensive understanding of finance products and associated security/legal/documentation risks.
- Experience in underwriting SMEs and assessing 'story credit' new business prospects.
- Capability to make sound commercial credit decisions within the Bank's credit boundaries.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Advanced written and presentation skills.
- Established analytical capabilities.
- Flexibility and adaptability to embrace business growthdriven changes.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Preferred: Degree or equivalent in a Business discipline.
- Essential: Understanding of asset finance operations, customer services, or collections functions, as well as prior knowledge of underwriting and assessing invoice finance.

£42,000.00-£48,000.00 per year
