OVERVIEW OF THE POST
Member of our prison education team, working within prisons within Greater Manchester, whose aim is to support learners to
- understand the construction sector, including low carbon building and retrofit
- develop skills and competencies to achieve accredited construction qualifications
- prepare for employment on release including attending job interviews whilst in custody
- resettle effectively and secure sustainable employment outcomes


  • Working within our established construction skills workshop in HMP Forest Bank you will be delivering a programme of accredited construction skills training alongside activities designed to build wider employability and personal development skills. You will develop and deliver a mixture of practical workshop, group learning and classroombased activities, including teaching and assessing a level 2 multi trades construction qualification which includes plastering, joinery, tiling, plumbing and painting & decorating.
You will support the design and development of new construction training pathways.


ROLE AND MAIN PURPOSES OF THE POST

Delivery

  • Recruit course participants from within the prison, conduct initial assessments and develop individual learning plans for each person.
  • Conduct regular reviews, and provide 121 support, for each person focused on providing effective stretch and challenge and enabling them to progress into employment on release from custody.
  • Work collaboratively with employer facing and through the gate team, and prison and probation staff, to support a successful transition into life and work for each course graduate.
  • Complete all necessary monitoring, assessment, action planning and review processes required by awarding bodies and project funders.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential experience:


  • Proven experience of delivering training to different groups of adult learners
  • Experience of planning and developing innovative and flexible programmes of learning
  • Experience of providing training to develop practical construction or sitebased skills, particularly multitrades
  • Experience of training and mentoring disadvantaged adults
  • Experience of working within the construction industry

Essential knowledge, skills and qualifications:


  • Minimum Level 3 Award in Teaching and Learning / PTTLS or equivalent
  • Relevant vocational construction qualification
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement or equivalent
  • A skilled communicator and inspirational trainer with the ability to motivate and engage learners
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Computer literate with practical experience of using MS Office and willingness to learn and use other software packages;

Desirable knowledge, skills and qualifications:


  • IOSH / L3 Health & Safety Qualification
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement or equivalent
  • Full UK Driving Licence

£31,000.00-£33,000.00 per hour
