    Job summary

    We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated registered Occupational Therapist to join our team within the Community Adult Learning Disability Service (CALDS).

    The CALDS is part of the Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO). You will be part of the existing and experienced citywide Occupational Therapy team, working alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrist, Physiotherapists and Learning Disability Nurses. We are an integrated team and work closely with our social care colleagues.

    You will have experience of working with adults with learning disabilities who may also have physical disabilities and sensory processing difficulties. Experience in equipment and adaptation, skill development, and supporting people to engage in meaningful occupation is also essential.

    The diversity of presentations from the people we support within our service requires applicants to have excellent communication and listening skills to enable provision of an Occupational Therapy service that meets the needs of individuals with complex health needs.

    Clinical support, professional development and guidance will be provided by the Professional Lead for Occupational Therapy and operational management Health Service Manager. The applicant will be expected to be responsible for the supervision of the Band 6 Occupational Therapy staff Technicians and students.

    Main duties of the job

    To act as Occupational Therapy Locality Lead.

    Assist the Professional Lead for Occupational Therapy and the Health Service Managers in planning and coordinating occupational therapy services across the city.

    Carry a clinical complex caseload.

    Supervise and monitor the work of occupational therapy staff

    Provide supervision and clinical guidance to occupational therapy students on placement.

    Deputise for the Professional Lead for OT and Health Services Manager as directed.

    Work closely with social care colleagues within locality area to deliver agreed service objectives.

    Assist the Health Managers with the overview of referrals, assessments and activity within the team.

    Ensure professional behaviour is maintained; working with Locality leads within CALDS and Adults Community Services.

    Ensure the delivery of agreed care pathways with regular quality assurance audits co-ordinated across the city.

    Ensure standardised care packages are delivered by occupational therapy.

    Prepare and present reports as required.

    To be accountable for clinical effectiveness and clinical risk, developing and monitoring standards working with service managers.

    Work with the Professional Lead for OT and the Health Service Managers to ensure the occupational therapy service remains responsive to the needs of adults with learning disabilities across the city.

    Work effectively and harmoniously with the Professional Lead for OT, the Health Service Managers and social care team leaders across service.
