    Interim Senior Lawyer - Governance

    • Duration: 2 months
    • Location: Manchester (Home based role)
    • Pay Rate: £70 per hour PAYE depending on experience
    • Hours: 35 per week, Monday - Friday (P/T hours can be considered)

    The position of Senior Lawyer (Governance) necessitates the provision of consistent, top-notch legal advice along with relevant briefings and training to clients within the team's specified practice areas.

    Responsibilities also encompass formulating associated policies, procedures, and guidance, as well as generating reports for the Council, the Executive, and committees.

    We are open to candidates looking for part-time opportunities as well (minimum of 21 hours/3 days a week).

    By fostering close ties with stakeholders, the role involves steering the development of efficient business processes, policies, and strategies by assuming a leadership role in their respective work domain.

    The role requires a diverse set of skills from an adept lawyer including expertise in local government law, offering counsel and aid to clients, analytical prowess, teamwork, document drafting, advocacy, and client training where necessary.

    Acting as a legal lead/subject matter expert within a designated legal practice area, the incumbent will handle a personal caseload of intricate, high-value, and occasionally politically delicate matters and initiatives, ensuring timely and successful outcomes.

    Employing ingenuity and resourcefulness to resolve complex legal matters effectively and conducting thorough research on laws and procedures to supply clients with accurate, focused, and pertinent legal advice at a high professional standard is essential.

    Collaborating extensively across various councils, GMCA, and other public sector entities to dispense specialized legal advice, information, support, and constructive criticism to client services, thereby advancing their priorities, safeguarding the organizations, and promoting corporate objectives.

    Offering specialized legal advice and direction to colleagues throughout the organizations, considering factors and aspects outside their immediate control and specialization to endorse a comprehensive council-based decision-making approach.

    Driving the efficient delivery of work packages to meet service objectives, bolster the councils' decision-making processes, and aid in fulfilling their legal obligations and strategic aims.

    Playing a pivotal role in assessing and enhancing organizational strategies to ensure the attainment of key performance indicators.

    Providing operational and strategic support to the authority's corporate stance on external regulatory/inspection and internal governance procedures.
