    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cancer Support Worker (EDSW) to join our Head and Neck team and be part of improving the service we deliver to our patients on a suspected cancer pathway. The purpose of this role is to support patients referred to the Head and Neck service with suspected cancer , Early Diagnosis Support Worker willsupport Faster Diagnosis Improvement in the Head and neck Service.

    Band 4

    Full time, hours per week Mon-Friday

    £25,147-27,596

    Secondment opportunity may be considered if internal to the Trust

    Main duties of the job

    This role will complement the Rapid Diagnostic Service and will require the post holder to support the pathway as it continues to be refined over time.

    The post holder will work directly under the Clinical Nurse Specialist and will require the collaboration of appropriate services to maximise the delivery of streamlined diagnostic pathways, thereby improving quality of care and experience for patients and their carers.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Educated to Diploma level and/or equivalent level of experience and/or equivalent qualification
  • Educated to NVQ level 3/4 or equivalent level qualification and/or experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Intermediate IT skills
  • Knowledge & experience

    Essential

  • Understanding of the national cancer waiting times standards
  • Experience of data entry
  • Experience of co-ordinating a patient workload
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Access, and Excel
  • Excellent keyboard skills
  • Desirable

  • Awareness of current development within the Cancer NHS plan
  • Knowledge of audit process
  • Statistical & analytical skills
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Experience of working within the NHS (either within primary or secondary care)
