THE ROLE:


To provide a high-quality porter service, to patients, staff and visitors, to undertake the movement of patients, equipment, documentation, food etc.

in an efficient and safe manner Maintain a clean and safe environment in accordance with the specification and be responsive to service needs as they arise and constantly seek to improve the productivity and quality of the service.

Undertake necessary duties to ensure the maintenance of an efficient Portering service. These duties will be carried out both in patient, and non-patient environments. All work must be undertaken in line with health, safety, security and Company and Trust procedures.


When required, you may also need to assist with the emergency and evacuation procedures and security situations in accordance with the Trust policy.

The post holder may work in an environment where they could be exposed to sensitive circumstances.

Principle


Responsibilities:


  • The collection and delivery of patients, furniture, linen, medical gases, medical records, xrays, pharmacy boxes, specimens, post, clinical and nonclinical waste, food and any other items, using appropriate methods of work as directed.
  • Assist with the transfer of patients, in accordance with Trust Policy, using for example a Patient slide.
  • Collection and delivery of patients, furniture, linen, medical gases, medical records, xrays, pharmacy boxes, specimens, post, clinical and nonclinical waste, food and any other items, using appropriate methods of work as directed.
  • Collection and delivery of deceased patients or DOAs to the mortuary using appropriate means of transport.
  • Ensure correct and appropriate use of radio and other communication equipment at all times in compliance with the local guidelines and procedures
  • If driving duties are required these must be in accordance with onsite restrictions, speed and statutory regulations. Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and safe before, during and after use, and complete relevant documentation within the prescribed frequencies.
  • Ensure the safe storage and maintenance of appropriate stock, medical gases and supplies and to ensure that these are available as required within the designated area.
  • Collection and safe removal and, where appropriate, the recording of nonclinical and clinical waste within your area of work, in line with Company procedures and Trust policies.
  • Change medical gas cylinders on wards and departments, using appropriate methods of work, following appropriate training.
  • Assist and take direction in the event of any fire / major accident or incident.
  • Ensure confidentiality, privacy and dignity is maintained at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Act and in line with Company and Trust policy, where appropriate.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner whilst on Trust and Company premises or public highways.
  • Ensure you understand and comply with all relevant current legislation as set out in Company and Trust policies and procedures and the related documentation, including the Employee Terms and Conditions Handbook, Employee Health, Safety and Environmental Handbook and security procedures.
