    Description

    Fire Glass UK Ltd is one of the UKs leadingmanufacturers suppliers and glaziers of fire and acoustic glass andis looking to appoint a Glass operative at their Scotlandbranch:

    Glass Operative responsibilities includescutting glass of various thicknesses by hand or by operating glassproduction machinery into specific sizes or shapes working to anotolerancestandard.

    Tasks

    • Operatevarious glass cutting machinery.
    • Observe gaugescomputer printouts and monitors to verify specified processingconditions and adjustments as necessary.
    • Set upand adjust automatic glass feeding flowing and formingmachines.
    • Cut glass and mirrors to specifiedsize and shape using patterns straightedge tape measure and glasscutting tools.
    • Break away excess glass by handor with a notched tool or glasspunchers.
    • Examine and mark defective glass toobtain the best cut.
    • Position pattern ordrawing on glass measure dimensions and mark cutting lines usingglass tools.
    • Smooths and polishes rough edgesusing a belt sander straightline polisher or polishingwheels.
    • Operate furnace to produce toughenedglass.
    • Sandblasts glass surface withinguidelines using sandblasting tools.
    • Loadingand unloading stillage for dispatch.
    • EnsureHealth and safety standards are adhered to at alltimes.
    • Maintain stock levels keeping a note ofbatch numbers for glass cut and off cutsproduced.
    • Comply with the companys policies andprocedures as set out within the Employee Handbook AccreditationManual (including Best Practice Quality Guide) and the Health andSafety Manual as updated from time totime.
    • Comply with the requirements for the roleas set out within the companys Integrated Management System(currently comprising the Quality Management System EnvironmentalManagement System and the Health and Safety Management System) asupdated from time to time.
    • Comply with therequirements of any Core Duties or other relevant procedural orpolicy documents applicable to yourrole.

    Requirements

    Demonstratea sound working practice and understanding of glass productiontechniques and practices.

    Ability to interpretinformation and follow instructions identifying problems andpossible resolutions.

    Experience in workingquickly and accurately demonstrate right firsttime attitude to meetproduction targets quality control and deliveryrequirements.

    Ability to exercise initiative andindependence in carrying out this role whilst also workingeffectively as part of a team to meet tight deadlines and customerexpectations.

    Maintain effective communicationwith management and peers.

    Experience inperforming quality inspections to ensure materials/servicesprovided comply with laws regulations and agreed standards prior tosignoff and handover.

    Demonstrate awareness ofthe importance of health & safety within the workplaceparticularly with regard to manual handling ofglass.

    An awareness of and commitment to equalityof opportunity

    Demonstrate an understanding ofqualities in theworkplace.

    Experience:

    Previousexperience in operating CNC machinery would be advantageous but notessential.

    Experience with overhead craneoperation would be advantageous but notessential.

    Qualification:

    NVQLevel 2 would be advantageous but notessential.

    Salary depends on theexperience.
