    Are you looking for anew opportunity and a chance to be part of a supportive MDT? We have an exciting opportunity for you to be part of our Diabetes Dietetic Team for both adults and paediatrics due to maternity leave.

    Dietitian representative across the Trust, both adults and paediatrics to cover maternity leave.

    We are unique in that the Diabetes Dietitians within the adult and paediatric services are one united team meaning that evidence and practice can be aligned and robust. There is an excellent opportunity for CPD as the job is diverse with many opportunities for learning.

    You will work closely and be supported by MDT in adult acute, adult community, and paediatric diabetes, providing advice and influence in these services.

    Caseload is varied within both adult and paediatric diabetes including ward visits, home visits and outpatient clinics to patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

    We also deliver a vast array of evidence-based diabetes education including DAFNE, XPERT Diabetes, XPERT insulin and the Roche carbohydrate counting course.

    You will be supported to develop your clinical skills and guided to enhance your knowledge, with the opportunity to develop your leadership skills to become a strong and compassionate leader.

    You will need to be flexible, dedicated and keen to be a role model for the whole team, ensuring our values and behaviours are upheld at all times.

    Main duties of the job

    The Advanced Specialist Diabetes Dietitian is responsible for the provision of highly specialist dietetic assessment, advice and counselling to a large caseload of patients. The post holder will supervise a specialized dietetic team and line manage a specialist dieticians and dietetic support workers within this team. They will be an essential member of a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and take an active role in patient-centred Quality meetings, contributing to discussions about all aspects of patient care and making important treatment changes. Audit and policy development to drive service improvement is a key part of the role, along with the training of other healthcare professionals and students.

    Essential

  • BSc or post graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
  • Desirable

  • Membership of British Dietetic Association
  • Member of specialist Group
  • Masters or Masters modules (Team leading or PENG)
  • Knowledge and Training

    Essential

  • Accurate anthropometric measurements skills
  • Excellent understanding of aetiology and management (dietary and medical) of all types of Diabetes
  • Excellent knowledge of legislation, clinical guidelines and governance and the ability to develop and organise the dietetic service in accordance with these
  • Desirable

  • Diabetes structured education qualifications
  • Leadership course or qualification
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Extensive post-graduate experience in a range of clinical areas both group and individual interventions
  • Good Knowledge and experience in managing patients with nutrition related conditions such as malnutrition, diabetes, obesity & coeliac disease.
  • Experience of working closely within the MDT and have the necessary team-working skills to do this effectively. Experience of facilitating patient-centered MDT meetings and having holistic understanding of the clinical, social and ethical considerations of complex chronic conditions
  • Experience of delivering education sessions to other dietitians, patients or healthcare professionals; to be able to engage others to learn
  • Experience of supervising, facilitating and mentoring student dietitians

  • Communication and Relationship Skills

    Essential

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural and counselling skills. To be able to use these skills with patients where there are significant barriers to acceptance or compliance and those who have difficulties communicating
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the MDT and encourage good communication between all those involved in a patient's care
  • Excellent presentation skills and confidence in presenting to large groups of patients or health care professionals or team meetings
  • Leadership skills Supervision of Junior Dietitians within the team
  • Networking skills with other healthcare professionals at a regional and national level
  • Analytical and Judgement Skills

  • Advance analytical and clinical skills to assess dietetic patients and to formulate and review evidence-based care plans
  • Evidence of data collection, audit or clinical research

  • Ability to manage a team of two Band 6 Diabetes Dietitians
  • Desirable

  • Experience of service/ project development and ability to drive Trust- wide improvements in patient care
  • Experience of writing or contributing to business cases
  • Ability to manage large, busy and complex caseload across multiple sites and experience of service delivery in a variety of different settings including the community
  • Physical Skills

    Essential

  • Experience of using patient information computer systems. To be fully IT literate, including accurate keyboard, word processing and data inputting skills
