    Description

    The Royal Surrey County Hospital are looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the therapy team on the in-patient wards at Milford Hospital. We are looking for an Occupational Therapist who has completed their basic rotations and is looking to expand their knowledge, skills and experience within the sub-acute setting.

    You will be joining a dynamic, experienced and friendly team that include physiotherapists, nurses, doctors and support workers. We provide rehabilitation to sub-acute ortho-geriatric and frailty patients.

    We have a strong commitment to clinical supervision and Continuing Professional Development you will be regularly supervised by a senior therapist and attend the band 6 Occupational Therapy support groups. You will be supported to engage in service development and encouraged to put forward suggestions as to how we can enhance and grow the services we offer. We have a well-structured In-Service Training Programme which the successful applicant will be able to learn from as well as the opportunity to lead sessions with support from your team.

    Main duties of the job You may already be a senior therapist looking for a new challenge or a Band 5 ready to make the move into a senior role. As a Band 6 you will be expected to perform to a high clinical standard, supervise band 5s and/or assistants, and Occupational Therapy students on placement, as well as contribute to our service development. You will be supported by an experienced Team Lead Occupational Therapist.

    There will be opportunities to work closely with our local community services as the Trust welcomed these services, alongside Pro-Care, in April 2018.

    Our services cover 7 days per week and the post holder may be expected to work regular weekends and bank holidays. Use of own car for business use is essential.

We have a range of experience and specialisms ranging from Occupational Therapy assistants to Advanced Clinical Specialists providing clinical support, and formal and informal training, and the department benefits from being managed by an Occupational Therapist who provides a strong professional lead. Person Specification Qualifications Essential
    • Diploma/degree in OT by recognised awarding body e.g. Royal College of Occupational therapists.
    • Must satisfy the criteria for full membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
    Desirable
    • An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT degree students
    • Further qualifications/Study
    Knowledge and Skills Essential
    • Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy for people with a wide range of physical dysfunction.
    • Able to assess for and fit basic equipment to facilitate safe discharge
    • Previous experience relating to specialist area
    • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
    • Knowledge of relevant NHS and SS legislation
    Desirable
    • Able to assess for and fit complex equipment and teach patient/carer in the safe use of these
    • Experience with community/mental health conditions
