    Location: Devon

    Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum

    Full time hours to include weekends

    General Manager - Garden Centre/Retail

    Are you an experienced retail or garden centre professional looking for your next leadership challenge? We are seeking an experienced and dedicated General Manager to oversee a bustling and independent garden centre and café operations in Devon.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • People Management: Lead and motivate the retail and operations team, fostering a high-performance culture. Ensure staff engagement and development to provide outstanding customer service.
    • Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, maintaining high standards and consistency. Manage stock, category ranging, and special orders. Conduct regular site walks to prioritise tasks and ensure operational excellence.
    • Financial Management: Drive retail sales growth, improve gross margin profitability, and achieve set KPIs.
    • Training and Development: Train staff to enhance skills and build a collaborative team spirit.
    • General Compliance: Ensure adherence to all company policies, including health and safety standards.

    Key Competencies:

    • Exceptional customer service skills with a go-the-extra-mile attitude
    • Strong leadership and communication skills
    • Excellent organisational and administrative abilities
    • Integrity, honesty, and attention to detail
    • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to change
    • Strong commercial judgment and computer skills

    Requirements:

    • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within retail and or Proven experience in retail or garden centre management.
    • A passion for motivating, inspiring, and leading people
    • Successful history of achieving KPIs
    • Ability to deal confidently with HR related matters
    • Technical understanding of plants, gardening, hospitality, and aquatics would be preferable but not essential
