Speciality:
Child and Adolescent mental Health and Paediatric Liaison.


This is an exceptionally wide-ranging post which offers an opportunity to work in both a paediatric setting (Croydon University hospital) and within a Specialist CAMHS service based at Christopher Wren House.

The 4-session role within the paediatric service involves providing psychological assessment and intervention for children and young people with type 1 and 2 diabetes.

The paediatric diabetes team is well established, has strong links with CAMHS and provides a supportive and creative environment.

The 6 session role within the Croydon CAMHS service is to offer assessment and intervention to children, young people and their families referred with symptoms suggestive of moderate to severe health difficulties and/or neurodevelopmental disorders The majority of the specialist CAMHS teams are co-located at Christopher Wren House which affords opportunities to work with children and young people with an exceptionally broad range of presentations including mental health and with developmental disorders.

It also provides opportunities to develop areas of specialism and the service has a strong commitment to providing supervision and CPD opportunities.

There is also a strong history of providing placements for Clinical Psychologists in training and active encouragement to support service improvements through audit and research.

Key tasks

  • To provide assessment and evidencebased interventions to young people diagnosed with Type 1 and type 2 diabetes (and /or their families) to increase to enhance individual and familial adjustment, reduce burden and barriers to good care, and increase motivation to manage greater selfcare physically and emotionally.
  • To provide assessments of children and young people referred to specialist CAMHS services with concerns about moderate to severe mental health difficulties and/or concerns about symptoms suggestive of underlying neurodevelopmental problems including ASD and ADHD.
  • Provide and monitor the outcome of evidencebased interventions for moderate to severe mental health problems, to young people and their families
  • Provide supervision and support within the multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to Clinical Governance and service improvement

In both the diabetes and the CAMHS service you will work as an autonomous practitioner, holding a case load and contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings.
