The MSW project Midwife role is a (0.6 WTE/22.5hrs) 9 months fixed term position maternity leave cover.


The role is designed to lead on implementing the MSW role in the maternity unit and will help influence the quality of the clinical learning environment by working with and providing support for training MSWs and all learners on apprenticeship pathways, as well the staff supporting them within the Divisions.


The post holder will liaise with the training and development departments, working with the apprenticeship providers to be able to offer a maternity specific apprenticeship pathway.


They will work closely within the Practice Development Midwives Team, to support the facilitation of the induction, education, and continuing professional development, for all levels of MCAs, MSWs, TNAs, and associated staff within the scope of their role.

They will partake in development of training in line with the apprenticeship requirements.


They will keep up to date databases of MSW workforce ensuring in house training is completed and also be expected to disseminate new information on educational and practice developments for MCAs, MSWs and associated staff.

They will work within the LMNS to provide training and education to the MSW workforce on designated study days.

They will be support management to carry out appraisals for MCAs, MSWs as part of their competency workbook.

The role would be suitable for someone who has good communication, negotiation, and IT skills.


There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are due for completion by 2025 or soon after.

These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

The role will involve the facilitation of training, education and support of the practice and professional development of all relevant clinical staff relating to all aspects of care, in accordance with local and national guidelines to ensure that they are competent and fit for practice and purpose.
