Job summary:


  • Defence Children Services are seeking to appoint two AO Resources Officers working in the Resources Department at Queen Victoria School, which is part of the school's Business Support Team.
  • Founded in 1908, Queen Victoria School (QVS) is set in 45 acres of beautiful Perthshire countryside. We exist to provide stability and continuity of education, within the Scottish system, in a caring but stretching learning environment, valued by the military families whom we serve. With priority given to Scottish Service personnel, and those who have served in Scotland or as part of a Scottish regiment, the school takes around 270 pupils from ages 10/11 to 18. We have a long tradition of ceremonial excellence; we take pride in this and all that our school has to offer. Working at QVS is an exciting experience.
  • DCS promote reflection and continuous improvement. We are currently reviewing our business to ensure our processes and structures allow us to continue to support Service children in the most effective and efficient way. This work may impact on our future structures and geographical footprint.
  • Both positions are advertised as fulltime for 37 hours per week

Job description:

The DCS Vision is that we Educate the Child - Support the Family - Defend the Nation.

Defence Children Services (DCS) is a Defence delivery organisation, subordinated under Army Regional Command. HQ DCS is UK based at Trenchard Lines, Upavon and has forward deployed staff all over the world.

DCS is responsible for the education and care of children of accompanied Service and Defence entitled personnel in MOD schools and settings and provides advice and guidance in respect of education for service families in the United Kingdom and the wider world.


The DCS Schools and Settings Service supports the provision of high-quality care and education for Service children and entitled personnel in DCS schools and Settings across the world.

The Service is led by the Chief Education Officer of DCS Schools and Settings.

The 15 schools and 7 settings are situated in locations to support the effective deployment of accompanied Service and MOD personnel.

Our schools and settings overseas mirror the English education system including inspections, assessments and examinations, and Queen Victoria School mirrors the Scottish system.

This enables pupils to transition from our schools and early years settings to UK based schools and nurseries with the minimum amount of disruption.

The forward deployed Headquarters' teams provide support and assurance for our School and Settings-based staff, providing expertise in all aspects of school improvement.

You should hold, or be willing to obtain within 9 months, Financial Skills Certificate (FSC) Foundation.

Person specification:


  • Role 1: Resources AO
  • Working within Queen Victoria School's Resources Department, the AO Resources 1 reports direct to Executive Officer (EO) Resources 1 and is responsible for carrying out the following duties:


  • 1. PURCHASE ORDERS

  • Progress non-Stores related purchase orders, ensuring that they are placed within 5 working days of receipt of a valid, authorised School e-Requisition Form.
  • In accordance with JSP 895 (The MOD Simplified Purchasing and Payment Process Manual), ensure the appropriate procurement route is followed

  • Service Sources
  • Enabling Arrangements
  • Contracting, Purchasing and Finance (CP&F)
  • Electronic Procurement Card (ePC)
  • PayPal payment method only
  • Miscellaneous Bills (ceasing 31 March payment method only eP
