Job Title: TA/ Communication Support using Sign Language

Location: Bournemouth

Salary: £13- £14 per hour

Start date: June 2024

Hours: Full-time Monday-Friday 8:30-15:30 (term-time only)

Contract: Fixed-term until the end of the next academic year

GSL Education are currently recruiting a 1:1 Teaching Assistant who can communicate effectively using sign language. The role consists of supporting a pupil 1:1 using clear spoken English and BSL, so that they can access the content of the lesson and engage in the learning alongside their peers. The ideal candidate would hold a Level 3 in British Sign Language, however if you have a wealth of experience communicating using sign language without this qualification you could still be considered for the role. Passion, commitment, and patience are key characteristics we are looking for

The role will commence the first week of June 2024 and will be a fixed-term position up until the end of the next academic year initially.

Role of TA/ Communication Support:

Supporting the Class Teacher in providing high-quality education for the pupil
1:1 support and provision for a predominantly deaf child
Contribute to making effective and tailored resources to help support the child with their learning and communication

The ideal candidate will:

Have lots of patience, be proactive and dedicated
Have experience communicating in sign language, Makaton or other non-verbal forms of communication with children
A strong ability to develop relationships and rapport with pupils
