Job Summary_

  • The role of the Hospital Engineer is to support the Senior Engineer, in close cooperation with other senior estates engineering staff with the responsibility for successful ongoing operation and maintenance of the trust's premises and assets with a specialemphasis on ensuring statutory compliance and a suitable environment for patient care is available at all times.
  • Success in completing this primary objective will be judged against specified performance criteria of quality, timeliness cost/resource and health & safety management agreed with the postholder as part of the annual performance appraisal/review process.
  • The post has a number of areas of work covering specialist knowledge and management of the site
  • Electrical infrastructure (electrical systems, generator supplies, UPS/IPS) as well as joint responsibility within the team for the BMS (building management systems). Knowledge of other building services and healthcare estate functions (nurse call, Lamsontubes etc.) will be required.

  • The post holder will be expected to ensure that the Trusts premises and assets are operated and maintained in accordance with the Trust's policies, DoH guidance (HTM/HBN) and industry best practice.
  • The post holder will form part of a multidisciplined team whose role is to provide the best possible service to the Trust. The Hospital Engineer will have both group and individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service, but each will ensuretheir contribution is in accordance with the Estates & Facilities vision and the Trust's overall objectives.

Duties_
- _The post holder will work as part of the Trust Estates Engineering team, with the guidance/direction of the Senior Engineers, to ensure ongoing appropriate support of the Trust's premises and assets / infrastructure using systems and procedures as appropriateor where directed ensuring the systems and support infrastructure reflect up to date practices. This may be for individually managed areas or as part of a wider Estates Operations team. The post-holder carries a personal responsibility to plan their time toensure they complete allocated tasks within agreed timescales and within the constraints of the departmental and Trust Policies._
- _The post holder will be expected to plan the engineering elements of multi-stranded systems and working a number of these at any one time by ensuing on going supplies, formulating future plans and adjusting them appropriately in line with Trust objectives.

Specialties that will need to be addressed will include BMS, HV/LV electrical systems, mechanical systems, building systems, CAFM systems, ground and any other essential service to hospital function and patient welfare.

- _The post holder will be expected to assist with the development of infrastructure strategies across the Trust such as standards, introduction and implementation of new systems / processes and other policies for engineering maintenance, working closelywith the capital projects team._
- _The post holder will ensure that the Health and Safety Policy, procedures and standards of the Trust and of the Estates and Facilities Department are adhered to at all times. The post-holder will ensure that all directly employed contractors workingunder his / her direction are fully aware of these policies, procedures and standards and fulfil their responsibilities in this regard._
- _The post holder will proactively drive service improvements and ensure that at all times the premises and assets are operated and maintained to ensure 100% statutory compliance._
- _The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the assets are maintained in accordance with statutory and mandatory requirements and shall work with the Operations team and contractors at all premises operated and maintained by the Trust to providea quality service that is responsive to service and clinical needs and provided efficiently and effectively to the highest possible standards. The post holder will ensure that external consultants and contractors working in conjunction with the post-holderare fully aware of the policies, procedures and standards of the Trust's Estates and Facilities Department._
- _The post holder will provide detailed professional technical advice to staff and contractors on issues that are complex and non-routine relating to the infrastructure and associated plant and equipment. _
- _The post-holder will maintain full and complete records of all works for which the post holder is responsible. Such records will include records related to contract PPMs and reactive works, data management of information from the Building MaintenanceSystem, PPM database information, etc. They will be responsible for developing service specific requirements for highly specialised clinical areas and equipment ensuring that appropriate environments are maintained and are achievable with the appropriate infrastructure. _
