    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity to join our PICC team in a new role for the service. The postholder will be support to the registered nurses in the provision of this service. The duties will include, assisting with PICC placements, assisting with education, audits and the administration roles that support the service.

    Training will be provided to the successful applicant.

    STAFF CAR PARKING

    Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.

    For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

    This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete "on call" duties within their role.

    Main duties of the job

    To work with the PICC team to provide to provide safe, effective, efficient care for patients, relatives and carers accessing the PICC Service.You will be responsible under the direction of the registered nurse for the ongoing assessment of patients and providing and monitoring care as agreed by the Registered Nurse. You will be accountable for delivering compassionate, person centred, evidenced based care. You will monitor the condition of patients within your care on a continual basis in partnership with the Registered Nurse, recognising and responding to changes in the patient's condition and escalating these in a timely way.

    Job responsibilities

    1. Communication:

    Communicate effectively across a wide range of channels with individuals, the public and health and social care professionals.

    Ensures and demonstrates effective communication takes place between patients, relatives and staff.

    Participates and communicates effectively with the inter-professional team and other agencies as necessary.

    Occasional exposure to distressing circumstances; such as care of acute patients who have received bad news supporting relatives.

    Ensures when patients concerns are identified they are addressed where possible, and informal complaints dealt with appropriately.

    Assist in the teaching of junior staff and learners in nursing.

    Assist in the supervision, support, training and assessment of non-registered skilled workers.

    Assists with teaching and assessing learners in practice and encourages critical reflection.

    Demonstrates verbal communication through the ability to give basic information and support to individuals. To listen effectively and modify communication to individual needs.

    Demonstrates written communication through the ability to record accurate, succinct, clear and legible reports and documentation.

    2. Analytical and judgemental:

    Monitor and re-evaluate the patient using a structured approach and escalate concerns.

    3. Planning and organisational Skills:

    Liaise with RN regarding the day-to-day workload

    Manage own designated workload without direct supervision

    3. Clinical Duties:

    Carry out a full range of delegated duties, including Implementation and evaluation of the patients condition and care with support from the registered nurse.

    To work within the scope of practice of the nursing associate role to understand the level of nursing associate role to understand the level of complexity of patient care to be undertaken.

    Be caring, compassionate, honest, conscientious, and committed.

    Maintain the privacy and dignity of all patients whilst adhering to Trust and department policies, reporting any concerns to a registered nurse.

    Work without direct supervision once key learning outcomes of the induction or preceptorship programme have been completed.

    Accurately and promptly carry out tasks delegated by the registered nurse in practice.

    Show respect and empathy for the people you work with and have the courage to challenge areas of concern.

    Develop skills, attitudes and behaviours that support the planning, delivery and evaluation of high-quality person-centred care in line with the NMC Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses

    Promoting PICC line care and education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives/care givers.

    Contribute to the daily preparation of clinical areas.

    During the insertion of the PICC provide skilled knowledgeable assistance. Ensuring accurate documentation of observations and effectively communicate information.

    Under direction of the senior registered practitioner, develop the skills and underpinning knowledge required to assist in the care of the PICC placements and care

    Responsible for the monitoring, documentation and handover of patients care.

    Ensures the significance of data relating to patients condition and progress is interpreted and acted on.

    Apply and promote safe and effective practice that places the individual and/or family at the centre of care in a manner that promotes individual wellbeing and self-care.

    Work within own limits of knowledge and skills within the defined parameters of practice, legislation and local policies and know when and how to escalate concerns and seek support.

    Display a personal commitment to professional standards and ethical practice, operating within WSFT and to national and local ethical, legal and governance requirements.

    Understand the principles that underpin duty of care, candour, and equality and diversity and maintain these core principles across all settings.

    To undertake clinical supervision/reflection and attend annual personal development review.

    Acts as an advocate on behalf of patients.

    5. Governance:

    Aware of responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act reporting via the appropriate system any faulty or damaged equipment in the department that could be detrimental to the health and safety of patients and staff.

    Potential hazards in the workplace are recognised and dealt with within own capability or reported promptly as appropriate.

    Adhere to policies and procedures applicable to department role, promote by example a high standard of quality nursing care.
