    Job summary

    The post holder will be part of the interventional radiology team to deliver imaging, vascular and non-vascular interventional services across the Trust.

    The Trust is a tertiary referral centre for vascular surgery, transplant and is a major trauma centre. The Directorate supports interventional services within the region via regional networks. The post holder will be required to participate in regular MDT meetings, including vascular MDT's. The post holder will also contribute to acute diagnostic imaging and image-guided intervention such as biopsy and drainages. The post holder will work at the Oxford Hospitals. It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations although travel will be remunerated.

    Main duties of the job

    We are looking for an enthusiastic and outstanding Radiologist to join the team of interventional radiologists working cross-site to provide imaging and interventional services as well as to support the regional on call IR service. The Trust is a regional Major Trauma Centre, Cancer centre with a large oncology unit and a tertiary referral centre for Vascular, Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgery as well as most major medical and surgical specialities. The Directorate is progressive and keen to invest in the future workforce with such measures as a 4-day week, home reporting, advanced practitioner radiographers and cycle to work schemes.

    Job responsibilities

    The Oxford Interventional Radiology department is a leading centre for the endovascular management of venous disease, complex aortic and peripheral arterial intervention, Urology intervention, tumour ablation, GI intervention and for embolotherapy including prostate embolisation, UAE and SIRT. There is an active research department supported by research nurses and consultants to further investigate and develop new services. Consultants are encouraged to actively contribute to National and European societies. Support and opportunities will be available to participate in and develop a wide range of interventional services, depending on the expertise of the post holder, whilst maintaining a core skill set for regional interventional on-call.

    Teaching/Research Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students and training junior doctors, radiology trainees and radiographers. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity.

    The post holders contribution to teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review and the Oxford Deanery is keen to remunerate these activities. Consultants involved in Medical Student teaching can receive an honorary Clinical Lectureship from the University The Oxford Rotational Training Scheme in Radiology provides full and comprehensive training for junior radiology medical staff. There are formal courses for the Part I and Part II FRCR examinations and all consultant radiologists are invited to contribute to these courses.

    During their training, registrars also obtain district general hospital experience, usually at three of the following: Wexham Park Hospital, Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury and Milton Keynes General Hospital.Radiology is identified as a core subject in medical student training and is taught as a thread throughout the clinical course. Radiology is also one of the optional elective subjects for final year medical students. All consultant radiologists are involved in teaching these students.

    Clinical Governance

    The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust and external accrediting bodies. Additional SPA time will be available to support formalgovernance roles. The department is in the process of applying for QSI accreditation.

    Personal and Professional Development

    The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up to date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. There is accessible study leave and study budget in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME coursesand other appropriate personal development needs.

    Management

    The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additionalresources must have prior agreement with the Trust. He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his /her patients and the running of his/her clinical department under the direction of the lead clinician and/or directorate chair.

    All consultant Radiologists are expected to participate in some way at some time in the management arrangements of the Clinical Directorate. There are opportunities to take part in Management and Leadership training within the Trust. Additional SPA will be available to supportmanagement activities.

    Risk Management The management of risk is the responsibility of everyone and will be achieved within a progressive, honest and open will be provided with the necessary education, training and support to enable them to meet this responsibility. Staff should be familiar with the Major Incident & Fire Policy and should make themselves familiar with the local response plan and their role within that response.

    Responsibilities for Health & Safety

    The post holder is responsible for ensuring that all duties and responsibilities of this post are carried out in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Statutory Regulations and Trust Policies and Procedures. This will be supported by the provision of training and specialist advice where required.

    Infection Control

    Infection Control is everyones responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non-clinical, are required to adhere to the Trusts Infection Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden ofHealthcare Associated Infections including MRSA.

    All staff employed by the OUH Trust have the following key responsibilities:

  • Staff must decontaminate their hands prior to and after direct patient contact or contact with the patients surroundings.
  • Staff members have a duty to attend mandatory infection control training provided for them by the Trust.
  • Staff members who develop an infection (other than common colds and illness) that may be transmittable to patients have a duty to contact Occupational Health.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications/Training

    Essential

  • FRCR or equivalent
  • CCT in Radiology or registration on GMC Specialist Register in Radiology, or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
  • At least two years of higher-level training in interventional radiology at a recognised training centre.
  • GMC Registration Full registration and licence to practise
  • Desirable

  • Additional post graduate medical qualification
  • Fellowship in interventional radiology
  • CCT in Interventional Radiology

  • General training in Radiology to Specialist Level or equivalent.
  • Interventional radiology experience at a tertiary centre
